Director of Clinical Informatics

JOB SUMMARY

Director Clinical Informatics is responsible for the planning, developing, and implementing of technology solutions that directly support patient care for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH), including the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and associated software applications. Responsible for overseeing applications, processes, and tools that are applied to healthcare information and used in BSWH hospitals, clinics, and ambulatory care facilities. Guides the selection, installation, configuration, testing, and training of software and applications designed to effectively manage medical and clinical information and enable the delivery of quality patient care. Leads informatics initiatives with a focus on healthcare process changes that utilize technology to improve medical, clinical, and business functions across BSWH. Drives the improvement in delivery of healthcare technology including advancing best practice operational workflows, performance metrics, and business analytics. Develops and implements strategy, policies, procedures, and processes for informatics with the goal of maximizing patient safety, quality of care, and operational efficiency. Ensures compliance with all regulatory areas and legal requirements that impact informatics solutions. May be responsible for transformational leadership, change management, and educational approaches to advance the use of new informatics tools and systems by clinicians. Collaborates with IT, medical, nursing, clinical, and operations departments to prioritize healthcare information needs and ensure that the informatics systems and processes will integrate effectively with BSWH long-term, system-wide technology solutions.

Recommends policies and organizational changes for area. Plans and executes projects and initiatives that meet annual objectives. Plans and directs the operations of a department or area, with responsibility for staffing, processes, budgets, and costs of the unit. Leads and advises subordinate(s) to meet schedules, resolve technical problems, and monitor performance. Has a larger, more complex organization or functional area than a manager. Often has one or more managers or supervisors reporting to the role.

This is an in-person position located at the Baylor Scott & White Health Heart Hospitals in Plano, Denton and McKinney, TX locations. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

1. Directs clinical informatics for assigned area of responsibility for BSWH.
2. Recommends and implements strategic and operational plans and priorities for clinical informatics aligned to BSWH overall business objectives.
3. Engages with clinicians, physicians, advanced practice professionals, and multi-disciplinary project teams to lead the site-specific implementation, standardization, utilization, and optimization of an electronic health record (EHR) and clinical informatics tools.
4. Directs facility clinical informatics implementations including current state/gap analysis, requirements documentation, workflow design, testing, training, implementation support, and optimization.
5. Collaborates with senior leadership, IT, and other cross-functional departments to analyze, redesign, and standardize patient care processes to improve the integrity of clinical informatics data and the delivery of patient care.
6. Leads the identification and analysis of end user business needs to ensure that the clinical informatics tools are performing to expectation and are implemented effectively.
7. Reviews and approves clinical reporting requests and informatics change control processes.
8. Leads site-specific resource identification and allocates for clinical informatics activities and ongoing support.
9. Communicates and monitors all clinical informatics messaging, standard practices, informatics reporting content, and status updates.
10. Leads continuous assessment of informatics tools and ensures compliance with system-wide clinical informatics education, training, and implementation support tools.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

1. Bachelor's degree in a clinical field, healthcare information, or related field preferred. Master's degree preferred.
2. 3+ years of experience in clinical healthcare informatics, clinical applications management, or related area.
3. Experience in a leadership role preferred.
4. Experience in healthcare technology implementation and project management.
5. Ability to develop and communicate clinical workflows and informatics design requirements.
6. Understanding of medical information usage and informatics software and hardware tools.
7. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and technical writing skills.
8. Active clinical license preferred, such as Registered Nurse (RN), Physical Therapist (PT), Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), or Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).

- EDUCATION - Bachelor's or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification

- EXPERIENCE - 3 Years of Experience

- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Physical Therapist (PT), Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP), Registered Nurse (RN), Reg Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Speech Language Pathlogist (SLP): Must have and maintain an active clinical license, such as RN (Registered Nurse), PT (Physical Therapist), RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist), Speech Language Pathologist, etc.
