Director of Clinical Operations and Financial Analysis

The Department of Pediatrics in the University of Virginia’s (UVA) School of Medicine is seeking candidates for a Director of Clinical Operations and Financial Analysis. The director will lead financial analysis and operational initiatives at the department level to optimize revenue cycle performance, enhance automation, and provide education and training to faculty and staff. This role requires expertise in financial analysis, revenue cycle management, and Epic systems, with a focus on bridging the connection between coding and revenue cycle processes to support operational efficiency and financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis and Revenue Cycle Management (60%)

Conduct detailed financial analyses to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges across the department.Develop and deliver reports to improve transparency and decision-making regarding revenue cycle performance.Oversee and resolve revenue cycle issues, partnering with clinical and administrative teams to implement solutions.Develop and write-up business plans in conjunction with Health System leadership.Create and maintain \"cheat sheets\" and training materials to enhance understanding of financial processes and coding among faculty and staff.Deliver training sessions and workshops to address coding and revenue cycle gaps, ensuring compliance and efficiency.Identify and Address Coding Education Needs: Analyze coding-related issues to pinpoint areas where additional education is required. Conduct audits of individual transactions to uncover discrepancies, and escalate findings to revenue cycle leadership for resolution.Collaborate on Denial Management: Identify patterns in denial-related issues and partner with the Health System to develop and implement strategies for resolution, improving the overall revenue cycle process.

Automation and Training Leadership (10%)

Serve as the department’s lead expert in operational automation tools, identifying opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce administrative burden.Design and implement training programs to improve staff proficiency in automated systems and other operational tools.Partner with institutional stakeholders to implement best practices in automation and training methodologies.

Epic Systems Expertise (20%)

Undergo training in Epic systems to develop skills necessary to bridge the connection between clinical coding and revenue cycle processes.Apply Epic expertise to enhance coding accuracy, optimize revenue capture, and ensure smooth integration with department workflows.Serve as a resource to faculty and staff for Epic-related operational and financial issues.

Additional Responsibilities (10%)

Undertake additional duties as determined by the Department to support the strategic and operational goals of the department.As the Department grows, this role may be expanded to include Divisional Administrator management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant subject
Experience: At least seven years of experience in a financial discipline, likely with supervisory experience. 11 years of relevant/finance experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: May hold CPA or other advanced financial certification.

Physical Demands:

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
