Director of Communications

POSITION PURPOSE

 

The Director of Communications will be responsible for leading and executing communication strategies that support the mission and vision of Grand Living and work to elevate the company’s reputation, foster robust stakeholder engagement, uphold transparency, and drive transformation. This role will oversee all external communications efforts, including public relations, and community relations. The Director of Communications will work closely with senior leadership to ensure consistent messaging and foster strong relationships with the community, families, employees, and stakeholders.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Strategic Communication Planning: 

Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that promote the Grand Living’s strategic goals, values, services, and initiatives to key stakeholders including residents, families, healthcare professionals, key media outlets, industry influencers, community partners, and the general public.

Public Relations & Media Relations: 

Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries and manage the company’s relationship with local and national media outlets. Draft and distribute press releases, op-eds, and articles, and organize press events or interviews to promote the company’s activities, achievements, and services. Prepare executives for media engagements and public appearances, ensuring effective communication of key messages.

Brand Management: 

Ensure the consistency and integrity of the company’s brand across all communication platforms, both internally and externally. Develop and implement strategies for brand awareness and reputation management. Implement strategies to enhance positive online visibility.

Content Creation & Strategy: 

Lead content creation across multiple channels, including social media, the company website, newsletters, press releases, articles, blog posts, and marketing materials. Work with the marketing team to ensure the development of compelling content that resonates with target audiences. Identify and curate engaging brand stories from diverse sources, such as customer experiences, employee achievements, and organizational milestones.

Community Relations & Partnerships: 

Foster, cultivate and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders, local community organizations, senior care professionals, healthcare providers, and advocacy groups. Represent the company at local events, conferences, and industry forums to build the company’s visibility and reputation.

Crisis Communication: 

Develop and execute crisis communication plans as needed to effectively address and manage any issues that may arise, ensuring transparent and timely communication to all relevant parties to mitigate reputational risks.

Team Collaboration: 

Collaborate with design, marketing, and other relevant teams to ensure visually appealing content consistent with overall messaging. Collaborate closely with the marketing production team to maintain consistency in brand messaging across all channels.

Performance Metrics: 

Measure the effectiveness of communication strategies, track engagement metrics, and adjust plans as needed to ensure the Grand Living’s goals are being met. Provide regular reports to senior leadership on the outcomes of communication initiatives. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of communication initiatives. Regularly analyze data and metrics to inform adjustments to communication strategies for continuous improvement.

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, public relations, or a related field Master’s degree, preferred. Five (5) or more years of experience in communications or public relations, with at least two (2) years in a leadership role. Experience working in healthcare, senior living, or related industries preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content and tailor messages for different audiences. Proven experience managing media relations and developing communication strategies for diverse platforms. Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with internal teams, media, and external partners. Knowledge of crisis communication techniques and best practices. Experience with digital marketing, social media strategies, and analytics tools. Familiarity with the senior care industry and the unique communication needs within this field. Experience with reputation management and brand development.

 

Other:

Fully remote, must live in Florida, Iowa, or Texas. Travel as required.
