Title: Director of Culture and Community FLSA Classification: Exempt - Salary Reports to: Superintendent Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 Created Date: 02/04/2019 Updated Date: 03/03/2025 Bloom Academy Charter School exists to provide a high quality, rigorous, and joyful educational experience to students in grades kindergarten to fifth grade. We are a new and independent school seeking to add deeply mission aligned, smart, hardworking, and emotionally intelligent people to our founding staff. We opened August 2019 with a cohort of kindergarten and first graders and now serve scholars in grades K-5. Bloom Academy Director of Culture and Community Driven by our mission to ensure every child succeeds, the primary responsibility of the Director of Culture and Community is to build systems and procedures that create a school culture that is conducive for joy, character development, and rigor to flourish. The Director of Culture and Community is a warm demander and models how to cultivate an environment of high expectations and love. The Director of Culture and Community oversees community engagement and extracurricular activities that enhance scholars' academic and character development. The Director of Culture and Community will have the following key responsibilities: Leadership and Team Development + Coach, develop, and evaluate all members of the culture and community team (Counselors, Family Resource and University Coordinator, Culture and Community Fellow) + In collaboration with the Superintendent, set and monitor school climate goals including but not limited to family engagement participation, school discipline (suspensions, referrals, etc.), scholar experience, and staff culture. + Participate in weekly leadership meetings and quarterly retreats to action plan and progress monitor district wide initiatives. + Model our staff norms (Be excellent. Be accountable. Be kind and spread love.) at all times. Oversight of Tier 1, 2, and 3 School Culture Initiatives + Lead school wide efforts in developing a restorative culture that keeps the bar high for scholars and aims to teach prosocial skills and not punish scholars for social-emotional gaps. + Assist teachers, students, and parents in effective creation and implementation of individual behavior plans, as needed. + Coordinate re-entry meetings with school staff and families of scholars who have been suspended. + Facilitate professional development and live coaching for teachers around restorative practices and maintaining a classroom environment of love and high expectations. + Determine restorative actions and consequences for tier 2 and 3 choices. + Keep accurate student discipline records, documenting all incident reports, conferences, suspensions, and phone calls for behavior. + Support operations staff in developing a welcoming, affirming, and transparent environment that promotes restorative culture. + Facilitate weekly community meetings with all students and staff that promotes school pride, a love of learning, and celebrations of academic and social/emotional excellence. + Own the creation of lesson plans for daily advisory that builds and reinforces positive self-identity, community building, and prosocial skills. + Maintain high visibility and oversight of high behavior moments throughout the day including but not limited to arrival, lunch, dismissal, after school programming, and community meeting. + Perform duties as assigned by manager. Family Engagement and Community Partnerships + In collaboration with the Culture and Community team, build mission-aligned community partnerships that enhance the lived experiences of our staff, scholars, and families. + In collaboration with the Culture and Community team, oversee the planning and execution of extracurricular activities. + In collaboration with the grant manager, oversee the distribution of the Stronger Connections Grant Funds. Required Qualifications + Bachelor's degree required. + At least 3 years of lead teacher experience with exemplary student outcomes. + Deep alignment with our school's mission and core values. + A staunch belief that all students regardless of race or socio-economic status can achieve at high levels and be positive contributors to their communities. + A successful background check in compliance with state law. + Strong written and verbal communication skills. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with all school stakeholders. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and social media platforms (Instagram & Facebook). + Relentless pursuit of demonstrating our staff norms: Be excellent. Be kind and spread love. + Ability to evaluate situations and assess needs quickly; prior experience using your strategic abilities and leadership skills to drive others towards an ambitious mission. + Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment juggling multiple priorities at once. + Ability to recognize when to move with urgency and when to slow down in order to bring in others and work forward more effectively. + Ability to produce quality content in short timelines. + Strong organizational and time management skills. + A growth mindset and high emotional intelligence. Preferred Key Competencies, Mindsets and Abilities + A social justice-oriented philosophy as it relates to the achievement gap and educational advancement of disenfranchised communities. + Spanish proficiency is a bonus.
