Job Title: Director of Development Campus: Metropolitan Campus, Teaneck, NJ Department: University Advancement-Metro Hiring Manager: Colleen Coppla Hiring Manager Title: Senior Vice President for University Advancement College: Position Type: Professional Administrative Grade: 31 FLSA: Exempt Faculty Rank: No Response Salary: Commensurate with Experience General Benefits Status: Full-Time Months Worked: 12 Month Job Summary: Reporting to the Senior Vice President for University Advancement (‘the SVPUA”), the Director of Development (“the Director”) is a proven relationship builder, an effective communicator, and a performance-oriented manager who will be assigned to high level prospective donors with an emphasis on health sciences. The Director organizes, plans, and executes a development strategy and fundraising program to secure major gift support from alumni, friends, business leaders and other constituents. This position’s primary focus is identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding high-level prospective donors who have the capacity to make major and transformative gifts to the University. The individual will serve as a visible frontline fundraiser and manage a portfolio of 150 + individuals who have the capacity to give $50,000 or more. Required Qualifications: PRINCIPAL DUTIES:1. Under the supervision, direction, and guidance of the SVPUA, the Director will structure, lead, manage and oversee development activities including prioritizing top prospects and engaging, cultivating, and soliciting major and principal gifts.2. In addition, the Director will work closely with University Advancement Team and University Leadership to achieve the University’s goals and objectives in the areas of Planned Giving, Annual Giving, Alumni Relations, Donor Relations, Advancement Services, and overall donor engagement.3. Working with the SVPUA, the Director will serve a key role in conveying a clear sense of focus, competency, and credibility to those who invest in and support the University’s mission, students, programs, and other activities.4. The Director will complete a minimum of 75 + unique donor visits/touches and 15 solicitations of $50,000 or more annually.5. Through personal contact including, but not limited to, visits, phone, zoom/ and through written correspondence, the Director will maintain consistent contact with assigned donors and prospective donors.6. The Director will cultivate donors and prospective donors by imparting information, ideas, and proposals regarding the University.7. Based upon evaluations of giving potential, the Director will solicit financial support for unrestricted and restricted use from assigned donors and prospective donors.8. The Director will prepare written proposals, informational materials, gift illustrations, and other materials to secure major gifts.9. The Director will collaborate on acknowledgements for support in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations, as well as follow-up correspondence and contact reports.10. In conjunction with the work of the Director of Prospect Research, the Director will participate in the compilation of information about donors and prospective donors.11. The Director will participate in Prospect Review Meetings and report results of individual contacts as applicable.12. The Director will provide stewardship to assigned major donor prospects by working with the University Advancement team to prepare endowment agreements, special reports to donors on the use of their funds, and recognition activities.13. The Director will participate in University Advancement internal planning and reporting activity.14. The Director will develop and manage a budget for outreach, travel, and cultivation activities.15. The Director will coordinate donor visits and events with University representatives, including the President, and faculty and students when appropriate; facilitate and participate in donor visits with University representatives; prepare donor briefings and cultivation strategies.16. The Director will attend all major on-campus alumni events; participate in regional events, designed to engage donors and prospective donors in the University.17. The Director will assist in the implementation of other University Advancement initiatives and activities.18. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure success of the University’s fundraising activities.
Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field from an accredited university or college. Experience in health sciences fundraising is preferred.2. Significant or equivalent experience in areas of major fundraising, campaign fundraising and prospect management. Desired level of such experience is at least seven years. Preference may be given to candidates with higher education fundraising experience.3. Possess a comprehensive record of substantial fundraising accomplishments along with a consistent history of value-added success within a team environment.4. Demonstrated record of soliciting, closing and stewarding leadership gifts of $50,000 or more.5. Experience in higher education development or non-profit setting preferred.6. Experience in development around health sciences is preferred.7. Superior interpersonal and communication skills; ability to articulate the characteristics of an independent liberal arts education, and to make a compelling case for support for Fairleigh Dickinson University.8. A high level of intellectual and informational curiosity, personal accountability, emotional intelligence, collaborative mindset and openness to new ideas and constructive feedback.9. Proven ability in leading, managing and organizing multiple projects with energy, clarity, optimism, collaboration, diplomacy, and integrity.10. The ability to work inside and outside of an office environment and an enthusiasm for this type of approach.11. Computer proficiency for word processing, spreadsheet, and data management applications. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and major gift prospect programs preferred. An understanding of Raiser’s Edge a plus.12. The ability to travel both within the tri-state area and nationally. Must have a valid driver’s license and accessibility to a car.13. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
