Director of eCommerce
Job Summary: The Director of eCommerce is responsible for leading the team responsible for defining the end-to-end digital experience, product strategy, functional execution, and the optimization of West Marine’s Consumer and Business websites. This role is tasked with defining and executing the strategic direction of our eCommerce platform - ensuring the product vision, objectives and key results are met and in so enabling a best-in-class user experience we are committed to delivering. You will partner with Technology, Marketing, Sales, Merchandising, Customer Experience, and business stakeholders to align on a product plan that meets our vision and prioritizes value for our customers. She or he will need to be able to influence and inspire others and will often present recommendations to peers, business unit leaders and senior leaders. Position Summary + Define the vision for the entire ecommerce experience across all digital touchpoints. + Provide leadership over the strategic direction of eCommerce Products, including strategy, product roadmap, product design, hand off to technical development teams, launch, and ongoing optimization. + Collaborate with stakeholders to adapt and evolve the strategy based on key drivers such as improved conversion, revenue generation, and cost savings. + Accountable for the successful launch of all digital experiences from ideation through implementation, as well as ongoing optimization and performance management. + Help educate leaders across the company and inform the strategic roadmap of core priorities. + Establish metrics and KPIs to measure the success and performance of products. Continuously optimize based on data-driven insights to achieve strategic business and customer experience objectives. + Lead a team of product owners and an optimization analyst in close collaboration with business stakeholders from across the organization. + Foster a culture of data-driven and end-user-focused product thinking, design, engineering, and innovation. Success factors/job competencies: + Track record of successful digital experience implementation and project management in a leadership capacity. + Customer Obsessed, Action Oriented & Drive for Results + Analytically Inclined, Critical Thinking & Continuous Development + Communication & Relationship Building Minimum education required/preferred, area of study: • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Marketing or Computer Science. Post-graduate degree a plus. Minimum years of relevant experience required: • 10+ years of in-depth business experience in managing software related projects/products from initiation through closure within IT environments. • 5+ years managing teams of at least 3 people. Additional skills/knowledge required include: • Proficiency in user experience and design principles. • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks/projects. • Excellent communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organization, with the ability to communicate effectively with senior VPs and developers alike. • Ability to assume cross-functional roles and responsibilities when necessary. • Experience managing products under an Agile Framework. • Thorough understanding of web analytics (GA4/Adobe, Looker, Click/Heatmap tools). • Experience working in an enterprise environment requiring partnerships with both internal and external teams. • Experience with a variety of IT products, including business facing and backend applications for a variety of functional areas (e.g. Salesforce Commerce Cloud, JIRA/Confluence, Figma/Invision, Basecamp, Optimizely/VWO). • Understanding of online marketing principles, including but not limited to conversion optimization, cross- and upsell, audience segmentation, A/B testing, merchandising, etc. a strong plus. Preferred experience, certification(s), skill(s), if applicable: • Certification as an agile product owner (Certified SCRUM Product Owner - CSPO) or product manager SAFe® 4.6 Product Owner / Product Manager - POPM is a plus. • Experience in online retail. Marine / Boating industry a plus.
