PurposeThe Director of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) will manage the EDA infrastructure for the Texas Institute for Electronics (TIE). The Director of EDA will play a very important role in ensuring that TIE will achieve its primary goal of being a premier consortium in advanced heterogeneous integration and packaging set up to bring critical advanced semiconductor technologies and manufacturing capacity back to the US.
A Director of EDA must be well-versed in all aspects of EDA from implementation of EDA systems and infrastructure, negotiating EDA contracts, advising TIE members on EDA solutions to address their design and development needs, assist in design and development of test chips, and be a valued member of various industry standardization efforts. The ideal candidate will be an excellent leader and will be a key member of the product development engineering team.
ResponsibilitiesContribute primarily in an EDA capacity to building a development ecosystem that enables large and small to start-up companies to access the necessary tools and processes to design heterogenous integrated systems.
Work with the finance and general counsel teams to negotiate EDA contracts on behalf of TIE.
Create TIE based EDA flows to enable efficiently, optimized heterogenous integrated package designs.
Work with technology team to develop required process design kits (PDKs) and assembly design kits (ADKs).
Ensure outsourced circuit and package design companies deliver solutions compatible with industry standards and TIE requirements.
In collaboration with partners, lead research on design tools and systems that enable breakthrough EDA solutions.
Manage EDA tool costs.
Provide tool support for TIE design systems.
Establish design network for use by TIE and its partners when designing using the TIE network.
Attend EDA conferences addressing key TIE concerns.
Develop a TIE tool set that includes the capability to model electrical, thermal, and mechanical performance.
Build a team necessary to meet the demands of the TIE mission.
Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, software engineering, computer engineering or other related discipline.
Ten years’ experience in electronic design automation (EDA), including experience leading EDA teams.
Experience in all phases of semiconductor modeling (e.g., electrical, thermal and mechanical).
Experience with contract negotiation, particularly EDA contracts.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsEDA experience with 3D-heterogenous integration.
Experience working in a startup environment.
Experience applying for public grants.
Experience working for an EDA company.

Working ConditionsWork is performed on-site in a scientific research environment, with dynamic work conditions and frequent interruptions.
Work outside standard office hours could be required on an occasional basis during peak periods and special events.
