Director Of Engineering

Position Summary:

Oversee and direct the engineering activities to align with the company’s strategic goals. This includes the design, development, and execution of capital projects and ensuring our manufacturing operations run efficiently and with a focus on innovation. Although you will lead a department of skilled engineers, the right professional for this role will be someone who wants to be a part of a dynamic leadership group that will make a significant impact and who is also willing to provide hands-on expertise to advise teams directly when necessary. 

Primary Job Function:

Direct projects and processes to improve manufacturing efficiencies across the entire operations; includes developing new methods, improving existing ones, implementing new cap ex projects, and build-out of equipment.Plan and lead capital expenditure and process improvement projects to meet strategic initiatives designed to contribute to the growth of the company.Identify systems, equipment, processes, and technologies that will meet future cost and performance objectives – focused on efficiencies, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.Create and present CapEx strategies and recommendations to Executive Leadership Team.Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production efficiencies, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.Collaborate with all departments, including sales/marketing and product development to execute against plans based on market needs.Set department goals, as well as individual KPIs, and drive the company culture to improve engagement and collaboration.Partner with marketing and new product development teams to ensure successful launches.Track ROIs and analyze performance against measurable goals.Ensure budgets and technical commitments are met and executed effectively.Evaluate training requirements and ensure equipment and facilities (plant and DC) are in compliance and working at high efficiencies.Provide leadership and direction to create high-performing, innovative, and collaborative culture within the department as well as across operations.Counsel, mentor, and coach teams to instill an CI mindset and innovative culture.Develop one, three, and five-year capital plans for the business; develop annual engineering operating budgets and set department policies and procedures.Responsible for facilities systems such as HVAC, vacuum, compressed air, fire protection/detection, and security monitoring – and all building-related services such as lawn care, security monitoring, fire protection, sprinklers, backflow preventers and Suffolk/Portsmouth Public Utilities.Direct facilities manager to ensure all maintenance records are maintained as required for audits and/or product recalls.Negotiate and manage natural gas contracts and set electrical pricing schedule.Evaluate position training requirements and ensure equipment and facilities are in compliance with GMP and FDA regulations.Environmental - ensures Risk Management Program (RMP) is maintained as required, including employee training, record keeping, incident investigation/correction and reporting. Responsible for state/federal Virginia Department of Environmental Quality Air Permit compliance, modification and renewal. Manages storm water pollution prevention plan, chemical management system, and chemical spill response programs, assuring training, record keeping and compliance.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering required; MBA preferred.7+ years of industrial engineering and/or maintenance management with project engineering experience required.Experience in a food or beverage manufacturing environment strongly preferred; background with a CPG company preferred.Demonstrated technical leadership.Proven leadership skills needed and ability to manage numerous technical disciplines simultaneously.Willingness to roll up sleeves and provide hands-on training to team members and others in order to build relationships and help drive engagement.Working knowledge of OSHA, FDA, and EPA compliance regulations, as well as PLC control systems, MES applications, and plant operation and support systems.Demonstrated experience in coaching and problem resolution.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with precise attention to detail.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $155000.00
