About This Opportunity

As a Director of Engineering for Enterprise Collaboration, you will lead technology strategy, execution, and innovation for Target’s enterprise collaboration ecosystem in an agile environment. This portfolio includes solutions enabling email, calendaring, business productivity, chat, video conferencing, telephony, online whiteboarding, project management, and GenAI chat capabilities. Your work will directly impact how Target’s 400,000+ team members collaborate efficiently and securely, both headquarters and field.

In this role, you will be responsible for partnering across geographically dispersed teams to execute the technology roadmap, driving modernization efforts, and ensuring seamless integration of SaaS and internally developed tools into Target’s technology ecosystem. You will guide and develop a high-performing team of engineers while ensuring high standards for security, stability, and usability.

Success in this role requires the ability to work hands-on technology across a global team, a strategic mindset, technical expertise in collaboration platforms and hardware, experience managing complex enterprise-scale systems, great communication, a deep understanding of Target’s technology ecosystem and a self-motivated working style.

As a Director of Engineering, You Will:

Technology Leadership & Strategy

Partner with product managers to define the technology vision and roadmap for the Enterprise Collaboration portfolio, ensuring solution delivery aligns with Target’s business objectives and technology strategy.Stay ahead of industry trends in enterprise collaboration, AI-driven productivity, and hybrid work solutions, identifying opportunities to enhance Target’s employee experience.Make strategic build-vs-buy decisions for Target’s collaboration stack, ensuring integration across multiple platforms and aligning with enterprise architecture standards.Partner closely with Security, Infrastructure, and Product teams to ensure Target’s collaboration tools meet security, compliance, and usability standards. Drive best practices.

Engineering Excellence & Delivery

Lead teams in building and integrating scalable, high-performance, and secure enterprise collaboration platforms.Oversee technical decision-making to ensure best practices in availability, scalability, reliability, security, and usability.Drive adoption of AI, automation, and analytics to enhance collaboration experiences and optimize IT operations.Drive resolution of technology roadblocks including code, infrastructure, build and deployment while holding your team and yourself accountable for meeting delivery dates.Ensure adoption of agile and DevOps methodologies, continuous integration, automated testing, and efficient release management.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence

Engage with senior leadership, business stakeholders, and external vendors to align on business priorities, technology investments, and operational execution.Advocate for and ensure alignment with enterprise-wide standards, frameworks, and policies for collaboration technology.Support change management and adoption strategies to drive usage and effectiveness of collaboration tools across Target’s workforce.Manage cross-product technical dependencies and handle conflict resolution.Inspire a strong engineering culture by contributing to the technical community in forums and groups.

Team Leadership & Development

Build and develop a team of high-performing engineers and leaders, ensuring career growth, mentorship, and technical excellence as well as inform resource allocation strategy.Foster a culture of engineering innovation, collaboration, and accountability, driving technical rigor in decision-making.Provide leadership and coaching to help team members navigate complex enterprise challenges and technical modernization efforts.

About You

4-year degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience12+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years managing engineering teams responsible for enterprise-scale technology solutionsStrong domain expertise in enterprise collaboration platforms and hardwareProven track record of leading teams to deliver and manage large-scale, distributed systems in a hybrid cloud environmentExperience with agile software development, DevOps, and automation in enterprise ITStrong understanding of security, compliance, and identity management for enterprise collaboration toolsExcellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to senior leadershipExperience working with globally distributed teams, managing cross-functional dependencies, vendor relationships, and enterprise integrationsStrong problem-solving mindset with a bias for action, adaptability, and ownership
