Director of Facilities

The Director Facilities is responsible for the strategic management and operational efficiency of all At Home retail locations, ensuring they meet brand standards and operational requirements. This role focuses on the maintenance, renovation, and compliance of existing facilities, while also overseeing the budgeting and execution of facility-related projects. The Director collaborates with cross-functional teams—including Real Estate, Store Operations, Marketing, and HR—to integrate facility solutions that support business objectives and enhance customer experience. Key responsibilities include managing vendor relationships, implementing sustainability initiatives, and utilizing technology for efficient facilities management. The Director Facilities plays a critical role in long-term planning to support the company, ensuring facilities are equipped for future needs. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Facilities Management

Oversee the maintenance, renovation, and compliance of existing retail locations, ensuring that all facilities are safe, functional, and aligned with At Home's specifications.

Create, direct, and modify procedures to ensure the timely repair for the fleet of stores, distribution centers, and the corporate office.

Establish sound business practices and procedures for the execution of the departmental goals, paying specific attention to effect on the customer/guest experience, service to the operators, and efficient use of corporate capital.

Support C-TPAT certification process to ensure uninterrupted import supply chain via electronic visitor logs & secure building envelope.
Budget Oversight

Develop and manage facility-related budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining high-quality standards.

Manage the operating R&M and capital expense budgets for existing fleet, distribution centers & Home Office. Look for cost efficiencies on capital improvement projects.

Monitor energy use at all sites & develop cost saving programs.

In partnership with the procurement team, negotiate energy rates using energy broker & react to changes in market conditions.

Research and develop cost/expense reduction alternatives and best quality contractors and services.

Develop cost proposals and cost estimates for equipment, changes to the physical plant and allocation of resources as needed.
Vendor Management

Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure efficient and effective facility operations.
Sustainability

Guide the cultural development & continual improvement of cost control, productivity, lean practices, and best practice application across the network.

Establish Green Initiatives involving waste, recycling, lighting, electricity & water usage.
Strategic Planning

Establish short- and long-range planning for the development of conceptual and specific practices for maintaining multiple stores, which includes advance repair & replacement, store service requirements, and timey response to the needs of the store team members.
Process & System Integration

Oversee and optimize the use of the information systems such as Service Channel to ensure accurate accounting of R&M and capital expenditures.

Enhance the facilities workorder management system for processing work orders and contracting, expense analysis, location profiles/history, approved contractor’s existing warranties and budgeting.

Create an operational communication policy and procedure to facilitate accurate and timely facilities repairs, timeline and deadlines for execution.
Leadership

Develop high performing team of managers, technicians & contractors located in the Home Office and field capable of executing the Facilities Department goals.

Provide management guidance and technical direction in the resolution of problems associated with maintenance, facilities, and landscaping issues.

Provide leadership and direction in the development, execution, and measurement of service standards within operations to include the management of all technical trade classifications (HVAC Engineers, Electricians, Maintenance Workers, Facilities Technicians, etc.) consistent with the company’s core service standards and brand attributes.

 


QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
8+ years of experience in facilities management or related fields, preferably in the retail sector.
Proven track record of managing multiple projects and budgets effectively.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
Working knowledge of facility maintenance
Experience in project and operations management
Effective P&L Management
Demonstrates ability to analyze and solve problems of varied scope and be able to act decisively in implementing solutions
Detail oriented and possess conceptual thinking and implementation skills
Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on communication, training, interdepartmental interaction, leadership, and supervision in an environment of fast change
