Summary of Job Duties:The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute Facilities Director works closely with Cancer Institute leadership to ensure Cancer Institute facilities align with the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) expectations for an NCI designated cancer center and optimally support cancer researchers, healthcare providers, administrative staff, patients, families and visitors. This position is critical to cancer space and facility strategic planning, serving as the primary point of contact for all Cancer Institute space related needs, including construction and renovation projects, maintenance of physical standards of the facility, requests for moves or changes in space utilization and access to space.
The Director serves as the primary information source for the Cancer Institute Director on all space related information and is responsible for compiling space related content for the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant and working with UAMS campus operations to keep campus space data for the Cancer Institute accurate and up to date. The Director works across with multiple UAMS departments on critical space reporting and audits and is the point of contact for all facilities issues as well as the liaison with campus for planned or emergency facility events. The Director is also responsible for ensuring appropriate communication goes out regarding planned events and response is quick and comprehensive for emergency events.

Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Construction or Engineering or related field plus six (6) years of experience in building/facilities management.

Experience in healthcare facilities management strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
Oversight of building operations and maintenance:
Responsible for operations and maintenance of all floors of the two Cancer Institute towers according to Cancer Institute Building guidelines.
Serves as the point person for the Cancer Institute to communicate any issues with UAMS campus operations and will communicate needs and resolutions back to the Cancer Institute Director and/or designee.
Investigates and communicates any facilities complaints or needs originating from within the Cancer Institute or from Cancer Institute patients and staff to appropriate team leads in UAMS Campus Operations.
Informs UAMS campus operations of building status updates as appropriate (or in regular meetings as required).
Serves as primary point of contact during facilities emergencies and ensures appropriate leaders are notified and kept informed. Ensures emergency response from campus is timely and appropriate.
Responsible for assisting laboratory researchers working in wet research laboratories within the Cancer Institute building through facilities, shared equipment and laboratory operations support.
Coordinates move-in/move-out of laboratory researchers in the Cancer Institute building.
Serves as point of contact for researchers when there are facilities or shared equipment issues and assists with resolution by engaging appropriate campus departments and ensuring work is completed in a timely manner.
Regularly assesses research space for general maintenance needs, submits work orders to UAMS campus operations and ensures work is completed in a timely manner.
Space utilization management:
Approves all space requests on behalf of the Cancer Institute Director.
Communicates regularly with department and team administrators to confirm requests and document needs.
Consults with Cancer Institute Director and/or Associate Director of Administration as needed for specific requests.
Works closely with Cancer Institute Director to ensure daily space approvals stay in alignment with his/her vision for Cancer Institute space (which is dictated by NCI Designation requirements).
Approves badge access requests.
Space data and documentation:
Maintains and updates floor plans in collaboration with UAMS Campus Operations.
Compiles data for the Campus Space Survey and works with UAMS Campus Operations to ensure that Cancer Institute space and space utilization is documented correctly in UAMS systems.
Generates space reports as requested by the Cancer Institute leadership.
Maintains a working knowledge of space occupancy and utilization within the two towers of the Cancer Institute.
Oversight of construction and renovation projects:
Works with UAMS Campus Operations teams as the point person for the Cancer Institute on all renovation and construction projects.
Participates in all renovation and construction meetings and is included in vendor conversations to provide report outs to the Cancer Institute Director and/or designee.
Communicates regularly with the Cancer Institute Director to ensure that space modifications align with NCI Designation requirements and expectations.
