Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Director of Finance - Boca Raton, FL.
The Director of Finance is a key leadership role within the College of Medicine, responsible for participating in the oversight of the financial operations of the medical school the clinical practice, and graduate medical education (GME) and other functions deemed necessary by the Dean. This position plays a critical role in financial planning, analysis, and decision-making to support the strategic goals and financial sustainability of the College of Medicine.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Planning and Analysis: Develop and manage the annual operating budget for the College of Medicine, which may include clinical practice plans and GME programs at affiliate sites. Provide financial forecasting, modeling, and analysis to support strategic decision-making, resource allocation, and revenue optimization. Collaborate with senior leadership to establish financial goals and objectives.
Practice Plan Management: Participate in the financial management and operations of the College of Medicine's practice plan, which may include physician billing, collections, revenue cycle management, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure effective financial controls, operational efficiency, and revenue optimization.
Assist the Dean’s Office with oversight of the Self Insurance Plan (SIP) and development of an effective information security and risk management strategy.
Work closely with College of Medicine leadership and clinical faculty, hospital leadership, community-based physicians, to provide an efficient and accountable service-oriented infrastructure.
Graduate Medical Education (GME) Financial Management: Manage the financial aspects of the GME programs within the College of Medicine. Coordinate budgeting, financial reporting, and financial analysis for GME programs, including resident and fellow stipends, educational expenses, faculty salaries, and program development costs. Ensure compliance with funding regulations and reporting requirements.
Work closely with the Dean’s Office to provide vision, support and strategic direction to the Dean, Designated Institutional Official (DIO), affiliated hospital leadership and physician practice groups in the development, organization and the delivery of residency training programs.
Continually enhance the collaborative relationship between the College of Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs, the GME Consortium, and other College of Medicine clinical affiliates/partners to move the academic health care training and research agenda forward.
Assist the Dean’s Office in providing support to the DIO and Program Directors on the development of the GME program and the structuring of the financial management of GME with all affiliated training sites, including financial projections, information management and funds flow for all programs
Guide the DIO in the preparation of annual budgets and oversee and report on budget execution throughout the year to achieve business objectives
Financial Reporting and Compliance: Prepare and present financial reports, statements, and analyses to senior leadership, department chairs, and other stakeholders. Ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with accounting principles, regulatory guidelines, and institutional policies. Collaborate with internal and external auditors for financial audits and reviews.
Financial Strategy and Improvement: Develop and implement financial strategies, initiatives, and process improvements to enhance financial performance, optimize revenue generation, and control costs within the College of Medicine. Identify and evaluate revenue diversification opportunities and cost-saving measures to improve financial sustainability.
Financial Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with department chairs, faculty, administrators, and external partners to provide financial guidance, support, and analysis. Serve as a strategic partner to support academic and clinical departments in achieving financial goals, managing resources effectively, and optimizing revenue opportunities.
Team Leadership and Development: Lead and manage a team of finance professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support for their professional growth and development. Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the finance team.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Qualifications:
A master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six (6) years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and (8) years of appropriate experience required.Preferred Qualifications/Skill:
Master’s degree, particularly MBA/MHA with a field of study in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
CPA certification.
Extensive experience in finance, accounting, or related roles within a healthcare or academic environment, preferably within a college of medicine.
Strong knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and regulatory requirements related to healthcare finance, physician practice management, and GME funding.
Experience in practice plan management, including physician billing, revenue cycle management, and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a focus on data-driven insights.
Proficiency in financial software systems and tools, as well as advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and financial modeling applications.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
