This position will be based on our UT-Austin campus and you must be eligible to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.

Purpose

The Director is a key member of the Math leadership team, responsible for overseeing the administrative, financial and human resources functions, in addition to working closely with the department chair on developing and implementing strategies to meet the vision and mission of the department.

Responsibilities

Manage all administrative operations for a large academic unit (8 direct reports). Seeks out opportunities for business process improvement while ensuring compliance to university policies.  Act as electronic manager and provide daily review and approval of all documents prepared by staff.  Provide a high level of support for faculty, staff, and students in the academic department.

Oversight of the department budget, including balance review reporting, monitoring the stopgap account, endowment management, annual BUD submission, scholarship processing, and compliance for unit’s procard verification.  Provide other reporting as necessary to endowed chairs.   

Support the Department Chair with projects and strategic planning.

Oversee all aspects of tenure/tenure track faculty affairs management, including recruitment, faculty promotions and reviews, tracking appointments, activity reports, and summer support. 

Serve as liaison between department and other UT offices.  Coordinates and prepares various university reports as required. 

Update the department Wiki page as needed.

Other duties and projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years’ experience in administrative and fiscal oversight. Demonstrated experience managing and coordinating staff. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities and objectives. Experience in budgeting and forecasting, accounting and reporting, internal control and compliance, and human resources. Excellent written and oral communication. Professional demeanor, excellent customer service skills, and ability to act as a facilitator.  Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a higher education institution or state agency. Knowledge of faculty personnel transactions and general policies/procedures. Knowledge of HR/payroll transactions, costing allocations, and process workflows. Demonstrated knowledge with commonly used business applications and processes at the University of Texas at Austin.

Salary Range

$90,000 + depending on qualifications
