Director of Finance - Care Delivery

We are hiring a Director of Finance to support Care Delivery at HealthPartners. This role will be responsible for hospitals and clinics that generate a 2-billion-dollar revenue stream. This position will provide leadership and guidance in the overall strategic direction of financial reporting for designated hospital service lines or whole hospital care delivery to ensure the finances for the service line or entity are appropriately managed and improved.  Deliver quality financial information to leaders and customers. Directly leads a team of financial analysts across multiple companies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance accounting or related field.  Managerial experience required in Finance Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong analytical skills and ability to turn abstract thoughts and issues into meaningful financial and strategic analysis. Ability to develop, compile and evaluate key performance metrics for hospital and ambulatory clinic service lines. Ability to effectively create and present information and respond to questions from groups of senior leadership, finance committees or other leaders across the organization on a regular basis.  Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills which allow for working with multiple levels of management across the organization. Attentive to detail but able to see the large picture and provide strategic direction and alternatives solutions. Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:

Master’s degree in business administration, finance or accounting.  3-5 years of leadership experience in finance in a hospital or physician setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

(35%) –Support the HP/Care CFO’s financial vision and direction by executing on it through their support and accountability of service line and hospital leaders. Support Hospital Presidents, in partnership with the Vice President of Finance, by providing operational accountability, planning, reporting and analysis for the hospital. Supports Service line Vice Presidents with operational accountability, planning, reporting and analysis for the service line. Learn, interact, and ultimately understand the interdependencies & financial value between service lines, hospital patient care and all support services.  The director should be in attendance and as a back-up in all leadership meetings and available to split all other committee meetings.  This may include presenting to various groups to include on occasion service line and hospital groups, as well as Service Line VPs and the President’s hospital leadership team. The goal of presenting is to successfully communicate by helping those leaders be more financially aware, accountable and to have the intellectual and technical tools to make better strategic decisions Develops financial models and analysis to support strategic decisions. Analyzes the ongoing profitability of all new businesses and/or programs entered into the system. Assists in coordinated development of financial analysis across the HealthPartners organization. Provides ongoing insight into the financial impacts long range plan service line strategies. (35%) – Leads, manages and mentors a team of financial analysts. Manages coaches, develops and prioritizes the workflow of financial analyst team. Designs developmental and experience goals with reasonable target dates for each analyst. Oversee and coordinates analysis and forecasting to support operating income, expense, FTE, and productivity targets. Monitors performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variance and takes appropriate action. Strengthens Financial Analysts’ ability to integrate market and industry trends in their analysis. Ensures financial analyst are providing adequate manager/director support by monitoring and adjusting to leader feedback (20%) – Collaborates with leadership at all levels to optimize financial outcomes Coaches and develops leaders to ensure they have adequate financial training and knowledge. Directs budget development and financial forecast across hospitals and service lines  Ensures appropriate physician compensation that is in-line with community and national benchmarks Clearly defines service line and hospitals financial targets and expectations. Develops and encourages operational processes that generate the optimal financial outcomes.  Designs and creates unique manager, director and senior leadership financial reports and tools where needed. Develop and support broad and common financial reports that cover all service lines and hospitals. (10%) – Improves performance by evaluating processes to drive efficiencies Reviews and analyzes month-end results including Revenue, Operating expenses, CapEx, and productivity metrics and compares to planned or forecasted results.  Explains or recommends future action. Driving and influencing business performance and continuous improvement through effective productivity reporting and labor process development Works collaboratively with other key finance departments (Revenue Cycle, Accounting, etc) Assures compliance with company policies and procedures, legal guidelines and regulatory agencies. Performs other duties as assigned.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

This position will be accountable for leading a team of financial analyst across the organization. In a highly matrix organization this person will partners with many levels of leadership across the entire HealthPartners organization.
