GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Director of Finance for Henry Ford Detroit provides financial leadership for Henry Ford Hospital & Support Services, supporting executive and operational leaders. Additionally. the leader will direct and oversee financial related activities including, but not limited to, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, expense management, service line profitability, financial analysis, business plans, productivity, benchmarking, and other financial information to support operations in the identification and implementation of financial improvement plans and strategic planning. The Director ensures achievement of financial objectives and alignment with the Henry Ford Health system to meet operational and strategic goals and expectations. The position reports to the Regional Vice President of Finance for Henry Ford Detroit.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accountable for the monthly financial reporting process to ensure leadership receives timely and accurate data. Provides explanation of variances and advises management as to the areas of significant variance from plan. Prepares reports for leadership, boards and finance committees. Directs the annual budget process as well as short- and long-term financial forecasting and ensures consistency with HFH system guidance. Provides financial leadership and operational support relative to the implementation of business opportunities, challenges and risks, including financial analysis, critical review of programs and services and relevant capital expenditures. Oversees financial reporting for HF Detroit to help monitor revenues and expenses against budget while working with operational leaders to help identify improvement opportunities. Collaborates and partners with HFH Strategic Planning in the development of short- and long-term strategic plans for all services within HF Detroit. Supports the financial modeling and operational planning for the future of the hospital campus including Destination Grand. Develops business plans to determine financial viability, to ensure that financial resources are optimized, and short- and long-term goals are achieved. Partners with reimbursement and revenue cycle teams to maximize net revenue through development of payor contracting strategies, approach to cost reporting, charge capture, billing process efficiencies, underpayment reviews, and other revenue-centric functions. Collaborates with service line leaders (Finance and Operations) on growth initiatives related to HF Detroit to achieve financial performance goals. Monitors financial systems to ensure data integrity and proactively identifies opportunities to improve processes and increase value of financial activities. Leads multidisciplinary teams and committees pertaining to hospital strategic and/or growth initiatives. Manages and completes special projects and serves on various committees as assigned. As a major teaching hospital, partner with and provide guidance to medical education leadership to ensure financial sustainability for all teaching programs. Understands and promotes continuous quality improvement through process redesign and re-engineering, leading key teams, as appropriate, to enhance the quality and delivery of service. Model behaviors that support continuous learning and empowerment through team leadership. Coaches and mentors through formal and informal relationships to further the develop of talented future Finance leaders. Serves as an expert and educational resource in the Finance field for team members and operational leaders. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Corporate Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Approximately 7 years progressively more responsible work-related experience required. Minimum of 3 years of healthcare experience required. Management or supervisory experience required. Experience developing business plan/return on investment processes Prior experience with budgeting and forecasting Skilled in productivity management and operational benchmarkingEDUCATION REQUIRED:
