Director of Human Resources - Full Time (Harrah's Hoosier Park)

JOB SUMMARY:

Directs and coordinates human resources activities, including but not limited to:  employment, compensation, labor relations, training, compliance, recruitment, employee events and services by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers/supervisors.

 

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: Employment Specialist, Compliance & Events HRIS Generalist, HR Coordinator, and Employee Relations Generalist

 

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:

Takes a leadership role in developing a culture which enables team members to employees to perform in accordance with policies and procedures while having fun and delivering excellent customer service.Annually reviews and makes recommendations to executive management for improvement of the company’s policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters.Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures compliance.Maintains responsibility for compliance with federal and state legislation pertaining to all personnel matters.Communicates changes in personnel policies and procedures and ensures proper compliance is followed.Takes a proactive role in assisting executive management in the periodic review, of wages, salaries and performance.Consults with legal counsel, as appropriate or as directed by the Sr VP & GM of Gaming on personnel matters.Works directly with department managers/supervisors to assist them in carrying-out their responsibilities in personnel/employment related matters.Recommends, evaluates, and participates in staff development for Human Resources and Harrah’s Hoosier Park.Develops and maintains a human resource system that meets global, payroll and HR personnel information needs.Oversees the effective and efficient  day-to-day operations of the Human Resource department.Conducts compliance related investigations including Title VII violation allegations, and ADA/FMLA violation allegations and makes recommendations to management.Participates on external and internal boards and committees and special projects and seeks additional responsibilities.Other duties as assigned

 

EDUCATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor Degree or equivalent; or five to ten year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Advance degree in Human Resource Management; Masters Degree or HR Certification a plus.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these areas. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Human Resource Information Systems, Internet, MS Word/Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.  Requires some knowledge in social media management.

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

Must be able to obtain and maintain a license from the Indiana Gaming Commission and Indiana Horse Racing Commission.

 

ACCESS TO CONFIDENTIAL/PROPRIETARY INFORMATION:

All employee personnel/payroll records, investigative and confidential health information, and departmental financial/budgetary information, and general internal audit information.

 

ACCESS TO GAMING FLOOR:

Requires access to general and back-of-house areas of the gaming facility.
