DIRECTOR OF INSPECTIONS
Summary This DIRECTOR OF INSPECTIONS position, is located in an Air National Guard (ANG) Wing Inspector General (IG) Office and is part of the CA 129 RQW. Responsibilities THIS IS A T32 EXCEPTED SERVICE, INDEFINITE POSITION Selectee may be non-competitively converted to permanent status if/when funding becomes available or position becomes unencumbered. The primary purpose of the DIRECTOR OF INSPECTIONS, GS-1801-12, is to serve as the focal point for interpreting, developing, and implementing Air Force inspection policy and wing-level long-range strategic plans. Provides direction and oversight of internal and external inspections, audits, evaluations, reviews, exercises, and analyses to determine unit effectiveness and efficiency. Ensures operational, contingency, and mobilization plans adhere to policy and direct the effective use of wing resources. May make additional selections within 90 days of eligible(s) issuance. Requirements Conditions of Employment CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the California National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Military technicians must be assigned to a military position in the same unit which they are employed or, in a unit that is supported by the employing activity. Military technicians must hold the military grade specified for the position. Priority Areas(s) of Consideration: Priority consideration is first given to the areas below. AREA I= Current California National Guard employees who are serving on a Permanent/Indefinite/Temporary appointment. AREA II= Current California National Guard members. AREA III= Current military members of the Air Force/Army National Guard, Air Force/Army Reserve or Air Force/Army Active Duty. (Applicants who are currently in other Air/Army branches and NOT currently a member of the California National Guard (CNG) must become a member of a compatible unit of assignment within the Air Force CNG commensurate with the military grade listed in this announcement prior to federal assignment). Military Grades: O-2 through O-5 Must maintain appropriate level of security clearance. Must wear appropriate military uniform including required grooming standards. Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade and job assignment as required by current directives. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment. IAW AF guidance, incumbent must complete the wing Inspector General Training Course Inspections (IGTC-I) and Inspector General Training Course Complaints Resolution (IGTC-Q) within 180 days of appointment. IG appointees for nuclear-capable units will complete the USAF Nuclear Inspector Course within 180 days of assignment. Successful completion of other courses will be accomplished IAW applicable DoD, AF, and National Guard Bureau regulations. Recommend completion of the NGB/IG Advanced Course within one year of appointment. Qualifications General Experience: Possess experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with skill in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately; knowledge of applicable laws, directives, regulations, policies, and procedures; skill in interpersonal communications, empathy, and effective listening; ability to organize thoughts, research materials, and manage case projects; skill in comprehending and interpreting directives and laws; ability to enunciate without impediment of speech that would interfere or prohibit effective communications; ability to write reports and presentation formats; and ability to communicate -orally and in writing- clearly and effectively. DIRECTOR OF INSPECTIONS, GS-1801-12: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-11 level experience in planning for and executing inspector general programs and using software data systems; Experience in the procedures to inspect and report on the state of discipline program efficiency and effectiveness, and readiness of military and civilian forces; Experience in conducting investigations and inspections to ensure compliance with agency policies, practices, and regulations; Experience in writing standardized operating procedures for the inspector general programs; Experience in revising data collection methods or developing new approaches to analyze and evaluate data; Experience in providing supervisory duties, directing administrative, technical, and operational directions and establishing broad objectives for long-range strategic plans or new programs.
