Summary/Objective:
North Shore Health, a leading skilled nursing provider with over 70 centers across Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, and North Dakota, is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of IT & Security. This role is integral to our commitment to high-quality patient care, managing and protecting sensitive patient information across our extensive network. The Director of IT & Security will lead efforts to establish a robust internal IT infrastructure and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
Essential Functions: Strategic IT Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive IT and Security strategy that aligns with North Shore Health’s goals, ensuring secure, scalable, and efficient technology services. IT Infrastructure Transformation: Lead the transition to a self-performing IT department, gradually reducing dependency on third-party IT support vendors for services like helpdesk support, network management, and security operations. Establish internal capabilities, staffing, and processes to support this transformation. Security & Compliance: Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of all IT security policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other applicable laws. Proactively manage risks associated with data security, disaster recovery, and business continuity. Helpdesk & User Support: Create and manage a robust helpdesk and support system, offering responsive, high-quality service to all users, including clinical, operational, and administrative staff. Establish efficient escalation processes and protocols to minimize service interruptions. Network Management: Lead efforts in network design, implementation, and maintenance, ensuring reliable and secure network access across all locations. Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and drive improvements. Data Governance: Develop and enforce data governance policies, focusing on the security, privacy, and accuracy of patient information. Regularly audit data practices and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Team Development & Vendor Management: Hire, train, and lead an internal IT team capable of delivering reliable, efficient service and security management. Manage third-party vendor relationships during the transition and evaluate their performance for continued or phased-out services. Project Management: Oversee all IT projects, including infrastructure upgrades, software implementations, and security enhancements. Coordinate cross-functional efforts and communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders. Additional ResponsibilitiesResident Rights Knows Resident Rights Helps the residents/patients exercise and/or protect their rights Maintains confidentiality of resident/patient and employee information HIPAA Follows and adheres to North Shore Health’s policies and procedures implementing HIPAA requirements for the privacy and security of protected health information Uses and/or discloses only minimum amount of Protected Health Information necessary to complete assigned tasks Work Environment/Physical RequirementsThe responsibilities of this position may involve travel and physical activities including standing, occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting. All employees when visiting nursing homes may be required to provide lifting and transfer assistance to residents. Lifting and/or transferring some residents will require use of a lifting device and /or assistance of other staff.
Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field. Minimum of 7-10 years in IT management. Experience in HIPAA compliance, cybersecurity, and transitioning from third-party to self-performing IT services. Demonstrated leadership competency Ability to travel to multi-state facilities Preferred Education and Experience Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, network security, data privacy, and HIPAA compliance. 5 years in healthcare IT or related industries. ITIL 4 Foundation certified Proven track record of managing successful transitions from third-party to internal IT support. Ability to manage a team, set goals, and develop team members. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
