Overview
The Director of Logistics is a leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing the end-to-end logistics operations of an organization. This includes strategic planning, operational management, and performance optimization of all logistics functions to ensure the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods and services. The role requires a results-driven professional with expertise in logistics, supply chain management, transportation, distribution, and warehouse operations.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Leadership: Develop and implement logistics strategies aligned with the company’s overall business objectives. Lead and manage a team of logistics professionals, ensuring high performance and alignment with organizational goals. Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Procurement, Supply Chain, Sales, and Finance) to streamline processes and drive efficiency. Logistics Management Oversee the entire Logistics operation, including Procurement, Inventory Control, Transportation, and Distribution, including internal warehouse operation as well as multiple 3PL’s. Identify and mitigate risks within the supply chain to ensure uninterrupted operations. Optimize logistics networks for cost savings, speed, and reliability. Operational Oversight Manage transportation and distribution systems, including relationships with carriers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers. Ensure compliance with all regulations related to shipping, customs, and hazardous materials. Oversee warehouse operations, ensuring efficient use of space, equipment, and technology. Performance Monitoring and Improvement Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness. Continuously analyze and improve logistics operations to enhance customer satisfaction. Implement technologies and automation, including a new Warehouse Management System in 2025, to improve logistics efficiency and accuracy. Financial Management Develop and manage the logistics budget, ensuring cost control and financial performance. Negotiate contracts and rates with logistics service providers to achieve favorable terms. Compliance and Risk Management Ensure adherence to local, national, and international regulations regarding transportation and trade. Proactively manage risks related to logistics operations, including safety, security, and environmental concerns.Qualifications and Skills
Education: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, Continuous Improvement or related field (Master’s preferred). Certifications in Logistics, Transportation and/or Distribution preferred. Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in logistics and supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a leadership ro Required Skills: Strong leadership and decision-making abilities. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in logistics software and supply chain management tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, WMS). Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills. In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations, customs processes, and international trade compliance. Preferred Additional Skills Proven ability to implement Lean, Six Sigma, or other Continuous Improvement methodologies and deliver measurable operational improvements. Strong project management skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments. Requires advanced business knowledge, general management and leadership capability to lead business areas and functional teams. Broad experience across multiple related professional disciplines within the organization, combining theory, past practical experience and the organization’s business practices. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Highly analytical mindset with the ability to leverage data and metrics to drive decision-making and measure the success of strategic initiatives. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, managing multiple priorities, ambiguity and deadlines effectively. Office-based, with occasional travel to warehouses, distribution centers, and supplier locations.Base Salary Range: $150,000.00- $175,000.00 per year contingent upon experience.
