Job Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities

·       Directs, schedules, and coordinates Operations functions.

·       Collaborates with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel, designed to further strategic objectives of the company.

·       Evaluates operational effectiveness through analyses of Department activity, on-site inspections, and other measurable criteria. Provide timely reports to the management.

·       Spearheads the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies to achieve and surpass sales, profitability, and business goals and objectives.

·       Manages capital asset maintenance. Manages and oversees budget and operating expenses.

·       Oversees facility functions including maintenance, building improvements, and adherence to legal requirements.

·       Ensures the security and safety of company machinery, property, equipment, and personnel. Ensures preventive maintenance is performed as scheduled.

·       Maintains existing facilities and equipment. Ensures forklifts, trailers, stackers, ladders, pallets, shelves, and warehouse machinery are in safe operating condition.

·       Motivates and leads a high-performance team; attracts, recruits, and retains required members of the team as needed. Develop and promote a respectful workplace through review of policies and procedures and actions that support and encourage respectful behavior.

·       Fosters a success-oriented, accountable environment. Conducts performance appraisals, provides measurable feedback and implements employee corrective actions, improvements plan as needed.

·       Ensures supervisors/managers are well trained, effective, and optimally used. Instructs Managers regarding policy, procedure, and program changes.

·       Assumes responsibility for ensuring professional business relationships are established and maintained with customers, vendors, the business community, trade organizations and other stakeholders.

·       Ensures Operations functions are well coordinated with related departments. Monitors service delivery and ensures excellence in service levels.

·       Ensures compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws, as well as all company policies.

·       Perform duties in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) policies and procedures, as appropriate for location.

Additional Responsibilities

·       Leads manufacturing unit efforts in meeting all Operational Excellence metrics including but not limited: Warehousing –Mis picks, Billed-not Received, Damages, Spoilage, Production, Labor Management, Slotting, Engineered Standards, Safety, Energy Conservation and Recycling. Transportation – On Time Deliveries. Safety – DART Rate, Workman’s Comp% to Sales and Compliance with and Successful Ranking of UNFI Safety Audit. Sanitation –Compliance with and Superior Rating on AIB or other internal or external audit metric. Inventory Control – Perform Cycle Count Protocol Quarterly, Achieve minimum accuracy standards of UNFI. All Service, productivity, accuracy, and safety targets are well coordinated and delivered in accordance with Company policies and procedures. Compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws.

·       Oversees facility functions including maintenance, building improvements, and adherence to legal requirements.

Job Requirements:

Education/ Certifications:

·       Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent related field.

·       HACCP & SQF certification preferred

Experience:

·       10+ years of operational and management experience required.

·       Managing within a union environment required.

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities

·       Knowledge of Profit and Loss statements, accounting, IT, human resources, purchasing, facilities, security, and quality control procedures and programs.

·       Understanding of related legal and regulatory requirements like OSHA, HAACP and Sanitation standards.

·       Understanding of Union Contracts.

·       Knowledge of budgeting, supply contracts, and shipping requirements

·       Knowledge of corporate compliance, ethics policies and code of conduct

·       Understanding of Inventory Control and Management procedures

·       Understanding of Material Handling Equipment Operations and Maintenance

·       Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems.

·       Excellent communication, interpersonal and supervisory abilities.

·       Strong project management skills.

·       Solid leadership abilities and decision-making skills.

·       Well organized and ability to take initiatives.

·       Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

·       Bi-lingual preferred.

Work Environment:

Onsite Role:

·       This position requires the associate to perform all duties at one of our UNFI locations, such as a distribution center or office.

·       Must be able to work in an environment containing Tree nuts, Peanuts, Soy, Wheat, and Milk 

Physical Environment/Demands:

·       Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.  

·       Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Perishable Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Grocery Operation.

·       Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.  

·       Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.  

·       Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties.  Ability to operate work-related equipment.

·       Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Actual Pay, where applicable, will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements. Sales Positions Only: For sales positions that are commission-based, the above range is an estimate of total potential commission-based compensation during an associate’s first year, but UNFI offers an introductory period minimum of $680 per week. After the introductory period, as a 100% commission-based role, there is no set salary. UNFI’s commission plans are uncapped and average earnings vary depending on territory and sales achieved, among other factors.
