POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Materials provides leadership of Supply Chain Management activities for the plant and field location(s) in order to maximize favorable impact materials planning; scheduling; inventory control; cash flow management; information flow and coordination and asset management.
The candidate will ensure the design and successful execution of supply chain strategies and processes in addition to supporting the day-to-day activities around planning, purchasing, customer service and logistics. The Director will drive enhancements in our ERP system to continuously improve on-time delivery to customers, reduce supply chain costs, optimize inventory turns, and increase vendor performance.
This position will provide direction to the group’s materials team for Repair Services for On-Site, Mobile, and Transco Railway Products, Inc. and the development, direction, and effectiveness, adhering to organizational policies and processes and supporting overall business and corporate objectives.
Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:
SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS
Preprocessing and contract reviews.Initiate and lead material availability and consumption processes. Shelf stock. JITAction Inventory turns and tactical plan to achieve improvement.Project based A3 for turn times. Day on hands. Lead and manage all procurement and materials management activities including order placement, supplier evaluation/certification, supplier follow-up, price negotiation and compliance with procurement regulationsMonitors shipping/receiving performance and investigates discrepancies to resolve/eliminate process deficiencies, accountable for location(s) materials metrics and standards of performanceHelp define and implement automated systems to plan and track material flow from customers through procurement to delivery to support a supply chain managementEnsure all the location(s) material management policies are consistent with the inventory control objectives of the organizationWork closely with operational leadership to maintain continuity with purchasing and supplier management processesFacilitate corporate purchasing and materials initiatives including common part numbers, supplier managed inventory, consolidated purchasing agreements, supplier reduction and supplier quality certificationsAdvise on supplier-managed inventory or supplier-based contracts with customersSupport internal or external audit requirements relative to the planning, procurement or inventory control functionsEffectively create and sustain procurement to delivery material and system cost reduction programsProvide professional development for all materials team membersBenchmark world class supplier management systems and implement best practices as appropriateActively support and implement lean principles, facilitate kanban, materials requirement planning technique, throughout the organizationComplete other duties as assignedEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 5 years applicable purchasing/materials management experience in a world-class, high volume manufacturing environment.Extensive managerial experience in state-of-the-art materials management systems including supply chain management, cash flow and asset management, JIT, MRPII, manufacturing and with APICS/CPM certification preferred.Four-year college degree in business, engineering, or materials management required with certification in materials management and quality preferred.Possess analytical and technical skills required to understand business practices and recommend proper automation opportunities.Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts.Ability to effectively manage multiple firm deadlines in a busy environment.Advanced knowledge of Microsoft PC software (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing, databases and presentations).OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED
