SUMMARY

The Director of Nursing plans, organizes, directs and facilitates the nursing staff for all Sholom skilled nursing units to ensure regulatory compliance, ensuring the highest quality care is provided to residents and promoting individual and team development for staff.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct the operations of the Nursing department, including supervision and development of staff.Coordinate and oversee resident care delivery.Lead and manage the department, participating in performance management and corrective action when necessary.Participate in the interview and hiring process to ensure quality services are provided.  Practice conflict resolution between residents, staff, families, community members, and other disciplines (i.e., Hospice, Rehabilitation Therapy, doctors, nurse practitioners, etc.). Serve as a clinical resource to staff regarding nursing care of residents. Provide in-service education to staff as requested.Monitor residents and their care plans for accuracy and suitability to their needs.Coordinate with internal departments to ensure the appropriate flow of services.Identify problems regarding resident care/delivery, facilitating interventions as appropriate.Evaluate residents with Admissions Nurse for potential placement and proper level of care.Maintain comprehensive documentation and reports per policy and regulation.Facilitate care conference meetings and participate in IDT (Interdisciplinary Team) meetings as needed.Lead the strategic planning process for the department.Create and administer budget, including overseeing all Nursing department related purchases.  Assist with various other Nursing responsibilities as needed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education, Experience and Credentials

Current Minnesota licensure as a Registered Nurse and must maintain licensure.Three or more years of experience as a Director of Nursing or Nurse Manager in a skilled nursing facility and transitional care unit preferred.Previous experience with MDS process and care planning preferred.Previous training or experience in geriatric nursing preferred.CPR Certification required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

Flexible and productive in an environment with regular interruptions.Display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization.Possess effective problem solving skills.Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, HRIS, and other applications.  Must be skilled in database management and record keeping.
