DIRECTOR OF NURSING Job Details Level Experienced Job Location Bronx - Bronx, NY Salary Range $90,000.00 - $120,000.00 Salary Description Job summary:Oversees and ensures the health care of individuals served at Institute of Applied Human Dynamics. The Nursing Director manages the day-to-day operations of the nursing department, which provides, coordinates, consults, and monitors all aspects of nursing services IAHD and ensures compliance with OPWDD Regulations related to nursing provision. Furthermore, creating, training, and enforcing compliance with nursing policies. The ability to identify, minimize and manage risk to the people we support. Develop plans of prevention, and draft written communication to distribute. Function as an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (ITT) member and assures compliance with all applicable IAHD and OPWDD standards, policies, and procedures. Essential functions: + Provide direct supervision to Nurse Managers, Nursing Coordinators, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and other professional clinicians as needed. + Complete performance measures and participates in decision-making for employment and termination of RNs and LPNs. Ensure nursing coverage for all residential and day programs. + Ensures Initial and Annual Nursing Assessments are provided to all individuals, following the format established by the program. Ensures required assessments are provided for all program participants based on acuity and need. + Coordinates and collaborates with management, support departments, and leadership to address needs of people supported. Communicates with physicians, professional staff, hospitals, and other venues of care to provide integrated care to all people supported. + Addresses medication inventory issues in a timely manner, collaborates with pharmacy to resolve issue and communicate effectively with team on the plan moving forward. + Establishes a progressive and productive workflow for the department by creating streamlined systems and consistent review of processes. Develop, maintain and review Plans of Nursing Services, Assessments and clinical forms to address the need of the department. + Provides proactive evidence-based quality initiatives utilizing preventative care mechanisms. Monitors trends closely to prevent and address contrary quality indicators. + Reviews and monitors the safe and prescribed administration of medications to people supported. Responsible for tracking staff training against regulations and oversees quality improvement related to medical care. + Provides and/or assures required education and training to staff, including medication certification, new employee orientation, and specific nursing needs. Responsible for medication administration course curriculum in conjunction with OPWDD regulations and trainings. + Ensures that staff requiring med certification are notified before their expiration date, have practicums coordinated before that date, and outstanding staff are made aware they cannot administer medications. + Coordinates with Medical Director and/or IAHD leadership regarding complex cases, end of life documentation, MOLST orders, and DNR/DNI requests. + Serves on assigned administrative committees as needed. + Responsible for monitoring compliance Nursing related information in electronic health record system. Creates and submits regular reports related to compliance and areas for improvement. + Coordinates and participates in IAHD’s nursing on-call system 24/7. Coordinate with contract agency when applicable for off-hours on-call services. Must be available off hours for on-call support and coordination. + Responsible for creation, revision, and maintenance of nursing trainings. Ensures direct reports maintain their required training and professional certifications. + Ensures completion of regular internal nursing audits. Establishes internal control mechanisms for key IAHD processes (weekly reports, self-audits, etc.). + Maintains and updates Nursing policies and procedures as needed to ensure they are always relevant and current. + Performs all other duties relevant to the position as requested by supervisor. + Advise direct supervisor of any obstacles to achieving responsibilities in a timely fashion. Knowledge – skills – abilities: + Exercise sound professional judgment consistently; Ability to interact professionally with Chief, Directors, and frontline personnel. + Strong organizational skills; capable of organizing information, planning task schedules and self-monitoring of completion of responsibilities and duties. + Excellent analytical skills to assess and interpret regulatory requirements. + Effective written and verbal communication skills, to convey complex regulatory information to various stakeholders. + Ability to develop and implement compliance policies, procedures, and controls. + Ethical integrity and commitment to upholding ethical standards and corporate governance principles. + Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. + Self-starter, strong interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work under pressure. + High energy and the willingness to work as a team player + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, electronic health record systems and eVero.. + Knowledge of Healthix, StationMD and Evero + Knowledge of Long Term Care Qualifications: + BSN or master’s degree in nursing required. + Licensed in NYS as a Registered Nurse. + Minimum 5 years progressive leadership/supervisory experience preferred. + Excellent verbal and written skills necessary. + Reliable transportation (NYS Drivers’ Licensed required). + OPWDD experience a plus + Bilingual (English/Spanish) Physical demands: + Travel up to 25%; Must be able and willing to travel to various programs or within the community as needed. + Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for up to 8 hours. + Must be able to lift up to fifteen pounds repeatedly. + Must be able to climb at least three flights of stairs as needed. + Ability to turn/twist upper/lower body + Ability to physically assist non-ambulatory individuals in transferring. + Office setting with exposure to the usual office work environment, machinery, and equipment with normal environmental exposures to dust, dirt, noise, and the like. Location / schedule: + Primary Location: Bainbridge + Full-time; Exempt.
