Job Summary:

In collaboration with the CNO, formulates policies and procedures consistent with recognized standards of professional practice and reflecting the intent of regulatory standards and maintain authority, accountability, and responsibility for nursing services.Maintains continuing quality assessment and improvement analysis and evaluation of patient care delivery and communicates with the CNO on the activities/issues of the patient care services.Supports cultural practices as long as such practices do not harm others or interfere with the planned course of medical therapy.Creates clear, concise and current written policies and procedures and is available to assist the staff and minimize risk factors.Collaborates and makes recommendations to the CNO any modifications, additions or deletions to nursing staffing plans to ensure reasonable hours and acceptable working conditions to provide optimal patient care coverage.Provides insight to the CNO as it relates to policy, development or patient care services. Maintaining close coordination with all departments to ensure continuity and collaboration of services.Collaborates with CNO on all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Fosters a culture conducive to evidence-based practice and clinical research.Collaborates with nursing educators to ensure that identified learning needs of the nursing staff are promptly addressed and that orientee’s receive the proper preparation to become independent practitioners.Collaborates with CNO on patient care delivery model(s), clinical and staffing standards and ensures these standards for nursing are consistent with current research and professional standards and with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.Plans and recommends to the CNO new facilities or equipment or modifications needed to provide patient care.Serves as a member of professional staff committees in matters pertaining to patient care.Fosters independence and autonomy in all staff members in areas of responsibility. Actively seeks those activities which promote/encourage independent thinking/problem solving behaviors.Integrates nursing services with hospital’s daily operations.In collaboration with the  CNO plans and coordinates with the Chief Financial Officer, utilizing the respective service managers for planning the budgeting requirements for personnel, performance of work, supplies and equipment and ensuring appropriate resources for the delivery of care are available.Assists the C NO in developing and managing the nursing services budget and ensuring sufficient number of qualified staff to assess patient needs.In collaboration with the CNO implements an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to patients.Supports the CNO to ensure that all nursing services are provided in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of The Joint Commission, California State Board of Nursing, California Department of Health services and other applicable regulatory bodies.Ensures each nursing department's performance improvement program interfaces with and supports the nursing department performance improvement program.Ensures that continuous performance improvement initiatives are designed to measure and improve the quality of care delivered and are consistent with the organization priorities.Works collaboratively with other patient care and support departments, fostering a climate of open communication and mutual problem solving activities. Initiates and participates in joint performance improvement activities.Collaborates with hospital leaders in developing, implementing, reviewing, revising and monitoring hospital-wide performance improvement activities.Assumes primary responsibility for projects or task groups as assigned, keeping colleagues informed of the progress toward desired outcome.Develops and maintains close working relationships with physician colleagues and other healthcare providers in assigned areas. Collaborates with these individual to set goals for the areas or develops action plans for patient care or system improvements.In collaboration with the CNO provides leadership and direction for the development of strategies to promote the “best and brightest” in Recruitment, Retention and Recognition of excellence in nursing. Actively involved in creating a professional practice environment that encourages recruitment and retention of staff in the nursing department.

Minimum Education:

Graduate from an accredited school of nursingCurrent California RN License·         Associate Degree Required

Preferred Education:

Bachelor’s Degree Highly Preferred.Master’s Degree Highly Preferred.

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications: 

Minimum eight (8) years in progressive nursing leadership roles, within an acute care healthcare system preferred.

  Additional Requirements:

Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission, and other local, state, federal regulations.Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing.
