Director, Manufacturing Operations

At FORTNA, we design and deliver transformative omnichannel, distribution, and fulfillment solutions. Our goal is to help customers keep pace with the rapid evolution of the marketplace through innovative automation, technology, and engineering solutions. We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Director of Manufacturing Operations to lead and optimize our manufacturing operations across three manufacturing facilities in the Louisville area and multiple shift operations, ensuring high standards in safety, quality, delivery, and cost efficiency.

Position Overview: The Director of Manufacturing Operations will be responsible for overseeing all manufacturing activities across multiple manufacturing facilities and shift operations. This role focuses on driving operational excellence, continuous improvement, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership to manufacturing operations and materials planning, aligning with FORTNA's business objectives and growth strategies. This role partners closely with Sales, Project Management, Safety, HR, Finance, and other key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

· Lead and manage all aspects of manufacturing operations, including production planning, materials management, and manufacturing execution across multiple facilities and shifts.

· Develop and implement strategies to optimize production processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

· Foster a culture of continuous improvement by integrating Lean Manufacturing principles across operations.

· Develop Operational targets and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive accountability and meet production & organizational goals

· Oversee operations that include Metals Fabrication, Weld, Paint, and Mechanical and Electrical assembly work, ensuring best practices and operational excellence in each area.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, Sales, Project Management, and Product Management, to support new product introductions and operational initiatives.

· Participate in the strategic planning process (including the Sales & Operations Planning process) and develop long-range plans to meet business profit and growth objectives.

· Oversee the development and management of the manufacturing budget, including capital investments, resource allocation, and cost control measures.

· Lead and mentor manufacturing leadership teams, fostering a high-performance culture and professional growth.

· Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

· Promote employee engagement and a positive work environment aligned with FORTNA's values.

· Identify and mitigate risks within manufacturing operations, ensuring business continuity and resilience.

· Implement preventive maintenance and equipment reliability programs to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.

· Ensure effective workforce planning, staffing, and talent development to support a growing manufacturing operation.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

· 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing operations, including prior experience as a Plant Manager or similar role responsible for leading one or more manufacturing facilities.

· Demonstrated success in leading large-scale manufacturing organizations in engineered systems or complex product environments.

· Proven track record in driving operational excellence, cost reduction, and process improvements.

· Experience in managing Metals Fabrication, Weld, Paint, and Mechanical and Electrical assembly operations.

· Strong financial acumen with experience managing operational budgets and capital projects.

· Exceptional leadership, communication, and change management skills.

· Proficiency in ERP systems (Infor preferred) and analytics platforms.

· Occasional travel (<15%) is expected.
