Hearst Magazines is hiring a Director of Photography to join the central video team in our West Coast offices. This person will be working across all of our brands, plus special projects. The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced environment, be capable of balancing multiple projects simultaneously, and will be a problem-solver who is quick on their feet.
The ideal candidate will bring both creative and technical expertise to all projects they work on, across a range of verticals including beauty, fashion, fitness, pop culture, and more. Content varies from short-form digital content to longer-form docu-style content, so a solid understanding of storytelling is a must.
This position will report to the Director of Video.

Job Responsibilities:
Lighting and shooting both on set and on location as neededDetermine all gear needed for shoots, working with producers and production management to draft equipment lists and develop shooting guidesLiaise with production teams and freelance crews on west coast equipment and studio booking requestsRun audio on shoots as neededWork with producers to determine aesthetic for shoots, ensuring their creative vision is executed with video and soundMust be flexible with working hoursTechnical Requirements:
Proficient understanding of the following cameras: Panasonic Eva1, Panasonic Gh5, Sony A7, Canon C300Proficient understanding of lighting equipment including (but not limited to) Arri Sky Panel, Litepanel Astra, Quasars, Kinos, Litemats, Tungsten unitsProficiency with running audio on set, including setting up boom mics and lavaliers for talentFamiliarity with Adobe Creative Suite applications, including a strong working knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, and Photoshop a plusQualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Film/Art/Photography6 years minimum experience in production and shootingSolid technical camera operating skillsSkilled in lighting multiple setups including 3-point lighting, seamless lighting, high and low key lightingExcellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skillsSolid understanding of story structure and story-telling skillsIdeal candidate will be tech savvy and knowledgeable about up-and-coming aspects of film and video productionAble to carry 50 lbs of equipmentMust submit reel of visual work for considerationThe base salary for this role is between $93,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
This is a position covered under the Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
