The Director of Practice Experience is an administrative member of Touro College of Pharmacy and reports to the Assistant Dean of Clinical and Professional Affairs. This administrative, faculty position is responsible for developing, managing, and assessing programs of experiential learning to support education, research and service.
Responsibilities Provides leadership, and supports the strategic direction of the College of PharmacyManage the overall experiential educational program curriculum -- Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs), Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs), and Practice Experience Course Reflections/Grand RoundsCreate and implement innovative services and resources for the experiential education curriculumManage the college’s registered pharmacy with other faculty and staffEstablish and maintain trustful and resourceful relationship with preceptorsLead on preparing and maintaining accreditation standards involving experiential educationResponsible for coordinating practice experience courses and grade submission to the office of the registrar for the full complement of experiential programWorks in a collaborative manner with the Office of Practice Experience team and departmental staff that support in the accomplishment of these duties, and college faculty, preceptors, and affiliate organizationsResponsible for academic scholarship and service to the profession and promoting participation in internal and external affairs of the College regarding community engagementExpected to fully contribute to the College in the areas of teaching, service and scholarship.Provides oversight and mentoring for PreceptorsFacilitates recruitment and retention of preceptors and experiential sitesWorks with the Dean of Assessment to review outcomes data and refines the curriculum to address identified needsOrganize and provide orientation to students, coordinates student schedules, and oversees student and site evaluationsImplements and maintains a continuous quality assurance and quality improvement program, ensuring high-quality preceptors and experiential sites and compliance with accreditation standards related to experiential educationDevelops and provides preceptor orientation, training and development that includes both live and web-based programsProvides input and guidance on issues relating to experiential education to faculty committees such as the Curriculum Committee and Assessment SubcommitteeRepresents the Touro College of Pharmacy to external stakeholders including, preceptors, state pharmacy organizations, and the New York State Board of PharmacyOrganize and participate in college and community wellness events such as medication reviews, blood pressure screenings, and vaccination programsPerforms other duties as assigned by the Dean or Dean of Clinical and Professional Affairs QualificationsEducation/ Experience
The applicant must have a PharmD degree; Post-graduate training (residency or fellowship) and previous academic experience are preferredMust be eligible for licensure or currently licensed as a pharmacist in the state of New York ;Prior work experience in a leadership role for at least 5 years is preferredCertification in immunization preferredKnowledge/ Skills/ AbilitiesA high degree of interpersonal competency: professionalism, diplomacy, judgement and discretion requiredCandidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable working with students, faculty, staff and preceptors.The position requires a strong commitment to the professional development of pharmacy students and the advancement of the profession.The position requires the ability to lead faculty, and supervise staff and work collegially.Travel
