Description
The Director of Procurement will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services. This position will direct the development and the implementation of measures to reduce the cost of purchased components while maintaining quality and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or other related business/technical field with 10+ years of experience in sourcing, procurement, and/or purchasing. Masters or MBA preferred.
APICS, ISM, or similar Supply Chain Management Certification preferred.
7+ years direct team management experience. Proven ability of selecting, coaching, and developing front-line managers.
Strategic thinker with confidence and speed in execution.
Leadership skills in building and managing teams with a proven track record of achieving goals.
Excellent analytical and negotiation skills.
Strong understanding of procurement processes.
Demonstrated strong verbal, written, and inter-personal communications skills.
Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and changing priorities and make sound decisions under pressure in a team-oriented environment.
Ability to execute initiatives and improve processes with a demonstrated bias towards process orientation.
Ability to engage and influence across all levels and business functions.
Experience in sourcing/purchasing and supplier negotiations.
Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Detail oriented with proven ability to plan and organize with efficiency.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop operational excellence within the purchasing group that aligns with the company values and strategic priorities.
Supplier Management and new supplier on-boarding
o Direct supplier selection for all commodities and manage vendor development.
o Lead negotiation efforts for major contracts.
o Develop and continuously improve supplier programs.
o Monitor and improve supplier on-time delivery and quality performance.
o Drive key initiatives to achieve the best total cost structure, quality, lead- time, payment terms and service.
o Lead the negotiation of strategic short-term and long-term supplier relationships and agreements.
o Develop suppliers' capabilities and assessments to improve quality, delivery and cost structure.
o Monitor supplier diversity program
Purchasing Management
o Assumes overall responsibility for the proper sourcing and procurement of materials, supplies and services for the facility. Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements and ethical standards related to procurement.
o Participate in existing and new product planning processes to assure timely acquisition of materials to support new product development and new product launches.
o Negotiate sourcing, pricing and material availability, ensuring subordinate staff buy, plan and expedite appropriately to meet production schedules. Achieve Purchase Part Availability at Shop Order start KPI goals.
o Coordinate efforts of sourcing team to focus on reducing cost through utilizing purchasing leverage, standardization, technology changes, and overall market knowledge.
Process Management & Improvement
o Collaborate with other departments and business units to drive process improvement and meet efficiency and growth goals.
o Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and set appropriate department goals.
Department Leadership
o Establishes annual goals and objectives, (including stretch targets) in coordination with corporate objectives, and manages performance to ensure attainment
o Supervise, mentor and develop the procurement team and create career growth opportunities and robust succession plans within the team.
o Supports and practices Lean initiatives in day-to-day production processes
o Represent the organization in executive level meetings and contribute to the establishment of major business strategies.
o Promote and enable development of staff, manage and document performance, and implement responsive actions.
Oversee the procurement systems, processes and policies in support of Company mission - specifically, support continued improvement of procurement processes via effective management reporting, information flow management, business process and organizational planning.
Improve the effectiveness of overall global purchasing performance via efficiency and procedural enhancements to each function within the purchasing process.
Coordinate global procurement RFQ processes, as well as support the regional RFQ processes as deemed appropriate.
Play a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward procurement excellence across the entire operational footprint.
Play a significant role in long-term procurement budgeting and fiscal planning in collaboration with the SVP, including the development of a department budget under your direct supervision & responsibility.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Travel will be required (Less than 20%).
Must be able to work in an office environment with a lot of sitting.
Must be able to tolerate a full day of computer screen viewing.
Professional office environment.
Some walking will be required to monitor projects on the shop floor.
Use of PPE (close toe shoes and safety glasses) required on shop floor.
