Director of Procurement and Strategic Sourcing

We have partnered with our client, a fast-growing, innovative global fitness brand headquartered in Scarborough, Ontario to hire a Director, Procurement and Strategic Sourcing located at their Scarborough facility.
The Director of Procurement and Strategic Sourcing is responsible for developing and executing the strategic vision for the procurement and sourcing functions. This role is key in aligning procurement practices with the company’s long-term objectives, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and driving efficiency across the supply chain. The Director oversees a cross-functional team, including a Senior Buyer, Assistant Buyer, Sourcing Specialist, Materials Manager, and Purchasing and Inventory Coordinator. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, this individual plays a critical role in shaping the supply chain strategy, influencing key stakeholders, and ensuring that procurement initiatives support the company’s growth and profitability goals.
ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership: Lead the development and execution of procurement and strategic sourcing strategies that align with the company’s business objectives and support long-term growth.Supply Chain Optimization: Direct and coordinate supply chain activities to optimize on time supply, resource utilization, maximize profitability, and ensure alignment with corporate KPIs.Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with senior leadership and other departments to ensure that procurement strategies are integrated into the overall business plan and support the company’s operational goals.Supplier Management: Lead the identification and qualification of new suppliers and/or partners to search the best options in the market and to mitigate risks. Act as a co-lead to other functional owners. (3PL, HR, etc.). Oversee the performance of suppliers, ensuring they meet quality, delivery, competitive advantages and cost targets.Continuous Improvement: Analyze current procurement processes and inventories, recommending and implementing changes that enhance efficiency and reduce costs. Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the procurement team.Alternative Sourcing Strategies: Develop and execute strategies to diversify the supplier base, including sourcing from domestic, U.S., Mexico, Asia, and other international markets.Governance and Compliance: Ensure adherence to all procurement policies and procedures, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.Team Leadership and Development: Lead and develop a high-performing procurement team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning. Drive performance management and talent development initiatives.Financial Oversight: Manage and control the procurement budget, ensuring financial objectives are met. Leverage advanced cost/price analysis and negotiation skills to achieve favorable outcomes for the company.Innovation and Market Trends: Stay ahead of market trends and innovations in procurement and sourcing, advising the senior management team on potential impacts and opportunities.QualificationsEducation and Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement and strategic sourcing within a manufacturing environment. A university degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field is required.Strategic Vision and Execution: Demonstrated experience in leading procurement strategies that align with corporate goals and drive organizational success.Leadership and Influence: Proven ability to lead and influence at a senior level, with a record of accomplishment of building strong cross-functional relationships.Supply Chain Expertise: Deep knowledge of supply chain management, procurement practices, and strategic sourcing, with experience in both domestic and international markets.Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations.Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly and persuasively.Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems, with a focus on procurement and inventory management software. Strong Knowledge of reading and interpretation of technical drawings.
