Director of Programming, Simulation Center - Rowan-Virtua SOM

The Office of Academic Affairs and Student Services at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine is looking for a Director of Programming in the Simulation Center. The Director of Programming is responsible for the successful delivery of Simulation Center educational activities. This includes program development and implementation, quality assurance and program evaluation, learner assessment, and associated resource management. The Director of Programming provides clinical expertise in the delivery of educational programs for a variety of learners and works directly with Academic Affairs and course faculty in that effort.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Simulation and SOM faculty, create curricula and programming that incorporates simulation exercises using patient actors (standardized patients or SPs), mannequin simulators, and/or other simulation technologies. This includes, but is not limited to, development of teaching/learning objectives, facilitator guides, scripts/scenarios, evaluation criteria, and evaluation instruments.
Responsible for the integrity of program delivery for formative and high-stakes testing, ensuring the accuracy, reliability and validity of performance data, and the reporting of grades, component scores, competencies, and written feedback and other related reports to support faculty, students, and curriculum advancement.
Establish quality assurance protocols and procedures for all programming to include online program setup, SP portrayals, grading/rating, and other key elements required to ensure program integrity. Monitor quality assurance data and take corrective actions as needed to ensure program effectiveness.
Develop written policies and standard operating procedures for utilization and operation of the Simulation Center and ensure that these policies and standards are upheld by Simulation Center employees, consulting professionals, and evaluators.
Offer educational programs, remediation, and other simulation services for students and residents. Provide direct instruction and evaluation of learner’s clinical and procedural skills and interface with learners to promote effective delivery.
Participate in the creation of faculty development on the use of simulation in education.
Provide direction to responsible staff on the implementation of programs including recruitment and training of SPs, coordination of program activities, deployment of assets, and oversight of data capture (video recordings and data input).
Collaborate with faculty and staff from all Rowan schools, as well as Graduate Medical Education, and community and professional entities to create and manage teaching and testing programs involving simulation technology.
Utilize technology to support effective education delivery including, but not limited to, course management software, simulation technologies, instructional software, and the use of shared drives and scheduling systems.
Keep abreast of related developments in medical education, simulation technology and procedures, and clinical skills assessment and engage in scholarly pursuits such as research, grants, publication and presentation at conferences related to simulation center activity.
Support the coaching and remediation of students’ clinical skills performance for benchmark assessments and support the remediation of students for clerkship OSCEs.
Manage subordinate staff (recruiting/hiring, terminating, training/developing, supervising, and evaluating).
Track and monitor costs and resource utilization related to Simulation Center educational programming, including staffing, facilities, technology, maintenance, supplies and other related costs.
Assume responsibility for grant writing and management to which assigned. Assist with research, writing, development and implementation of additional grants as needed.
Promote, represent and market the Simulation Center, SOM, Rowan and Osteopathic Medicine. Collaborate on the development of the Center website, social media presence, and related marketing materials.
Serve on university, campus and departmental committees as assigned.
Represent SOM at conferences and meetings related to standardized patients and simulation.
Keep abreast of all and ensure compliance with all pertinent federal, state and Rowan regulations, laws and policies.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree or higher in a clinical discipline required (i.e. MSN, PA, DO, MD). Two (2) years of experience working in a clinical setting with patient care responsibilities required. Two (2) years of experience in curricular development, implementation, and evaluation utilizing data collection instruments required. Two (2) years of supervisory/management experience preferred. Two (2) years of experience working in a simulation center environment preferred.
Experience in the following preferred: teaching or training, instructional design and/or medical communication, educational research, data collection of any kind, quantitative and qualitative reporting and grant writing. Demonstrated advanced knowledge in desktop computing and adapt easily to new hardware and software with minimal support. Demonstrated excellent communication, organization, planning and leadership skills, and the ability to function independently as well as within teams. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in customer service to balance the interests of faculty, students, and consultant/contract staff. Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment are required. Knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment is preferred. Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires reaching and bending and significant handling and moving of documents, equipment (including computers), furnishings and materials, some of which exceed 10 lbs.
Basic communication skills for planning, implementation, documentation and promotion of Simulation Center activity.
