DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Director of Public and Legislative Affairs you will become an essential member of the Pennsylvania's State Board of Higher Education (SBHE) senior team, where you will work closely with the executive director and SBHE. You will have the opportunity to serve as the principle spokesperson for the board, performing highly responsible, professional duties leading the communications and legislative affair functions of the SBE. Under the direction of the executive director, you will be developing and executing a strategic communication and public relations plan that highlights the work of the State Board of Higher Education as well as contributions of higher education to the Commonwealth to a broad range of stakeholders. Work involves establishing and maintaining a strong, constructive relationship with members of the General Assembly, the administration of the Governor, and other key stakeholders to promote the value and the work of the State Board of Higher Education. Additionally, you will be collaborating with the agency directors for legislative affairs, policy, and communications to remain in alignment with PDE and the Governor's Office goals. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Additional Requirements: + You must have 5 to 7 years of experience in communications, public affairs, and/or legislative affairs. + You must have experience developing and executing successful public and legislative affairs strategies. + You must possess demonstrated expertise in postsecondary education and its contributions to workforce and economic development. + You must be familiar with the Pennsylvania General Assembly, with established track record of constructive relationships and interactions. + You must possess a working knowledge and understanding of higher education institutions in Pennsylvania across multiple sectors. + You must have the capacity and willingness to work as a member of a small, dynamic team committed to the high functioning and effectiveness of a newly-established State Board of Higher Education. + You must have exceptional interpersonal skills. + You must possess the ability to anticipate and proactively develop strategies for responding to potential or emerging challenges or opportunities. + You must possess strong communication skills and capacity to speak publicly to large groups of a variety of stakeholders. + You must be able to perform essential job functions.
