TheDirector of Qualitywill be r esponsible for executing Symmons’ Quality strategy ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives, while providing support to our customers, product engineering and operations within our manufacturing facility. The Director of Quality will ensure that all products meet or exceed company and industry standards, implement effective quality control systems, and lead initiatives to drive continuous improvement. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to optimize processes, address quality concerns, and foster a culture of excellence throughout the organization. This role is ideal for a candidate with 8-10 years of experience in quality and is ready to take the next step in their career. Responsibilities Quality Strategy and Leadership: + Guide the quality management team, providing support, mentorship, and direction to achieve high-quality standards. + Champion a culture of quality across the company, promoting awareness and accountability at all levels. Quality Management System (QMS): + Implement, maintain, and improve the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001). + Monitor and report on key quality metrics, ensuring continuous improvement in product quality and process performance. + Lead efforts to resolve production issues or quality concerns by investigating root causes and implementing corrective actions. Compliance and Audits: + Ensure the company complies with all relevant regulations, certifications, and quality standards. + Prepare for and manage internal and external audits, ensuring readiness and adherence to applicable requirements. + Address non-conformance issues and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented. Product Quality and Improvement: + Oversee the implementation of quality control measures to ensure that products meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements. + Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify opportunities for process improvements and quality enhancements. + Actively resolve customer complaints and quality concerns, working with the appropriate teams to drive quick and effective solutions. Process Optimization: + Lead Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce defects. + Work with production teams to identify areas of improvement and reduce variability in production processes. + Promote the use of data analysis to monitor trends and prevent recurring quality issues. Supplier Quality Management: + Support supplier quality management efforts, including assessing and monitoring supplier performance. + Work with suppliers to ensure their processes align with quality standards and resolve any issues impacting product quality. Team Development and Collaboration: + Manage, coach, and develop the quality team, providing training and growth opportunities to build a high-performing group. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and supply chain, to resolve quality-related challenges and drive improvement initiatives. Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Management, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus. + 8-10 years of experience in quality management in a manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role. Experience in the plumbing industry a plus. + CQE, Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, or other relevant certifications a plus. + Experience with working in NPD teams, taking the lead first article approval process, providing support for PPAP process both internal and external. + Experience with tracking the performance of manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement. + Experience with collaborating with engineering and design teams to understand the product’s features and tolerances. + Experience with developing inspection plans that specify what needs to be inspected, how, and when. + Experience with destructive and non-destructive testing as required by industry standard (CSA, NSF 61, ASME A112, etc…) for the product’s safety, performance and durability. + Experience conducting on-site audits and visiting supplier facilities. Observing their quality systems and process controls. + Experience in establishing metrics and scorecards for key suppliers. + Experience with leading and training teams in structured problem solving. + Strong understanding of quality management systems, process improvement methodologies, and quality control tools. + Regular communication with Sales, Engineering, Marketing, Operations and Customers. + Proficiency in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement practices. + Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. + Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments. + Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards (ISO, GMP, etc.). + Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, result-driven environment. + Domestic and international travel required for supplier visits, customer support, training, and audits.
