Director of Recreation

Pine Canyon is seeking a dynamic and passionate Director of Recreation to oversee all recreational activities and programs. This role involves the management and development of our Camp PC (kids' summer camp), youth programming, and a variety of outdoor adventures including hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and more. The ideal candidate will have a love for the outdoors, a commitment to youth development, and exceptional organizational and leadership skills.

$65,000 - $70,000 per year

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development: Design, implement, and manage a diverse range of recreational programs, including but not limited to Camp PC (kids' summer camp), youth programming, and a variety of outdoor adventures including hiking, fishing, mountain biking, sports leagues, and more. Member Engagement: Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members. Maintain high visibility with membership, especially during drop-in and drop-off times. Event Coordination: Plan and execute special events and activities, such as tournaments, seasonal celebrations, and family-oriented events. Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise a team of recreation staff, including camp counselors, lifeguards, and activity coordinators. Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities. Facility Management: Oversee the maintenance and operation of recreational facilities, including the camp building, pool, sports courts, and outdoor areas. Ensure all equipment is safe and up to date. Budget Management: Develop and manage the recreation department budget. Monitor expenses, forecast future needs, and ensure cost-effective operations. Ensure accuracy with billing using the POS system. Partnerships: Collaborate with local businesses, organizations, and vendors to enhance recreational offerings and create sponsorship opportunities. Marketing and Communication: Work with the marketing team to promote recreational activities through various channels, including newsletters, social media, and the Pine Canyon website. Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure all recreational activities and facilities comply with health and safety regulations. Implement and enforce policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment. Member Feedback: Initiates follow-up promptly and sincerely, communicating with all relevant parties to address member feedback effectively. Documentation Management: Handle all documentation related to campers and incident files meticulously. Communicating with parents as needed. Innovation: Meet or exceed current guidelines for all recreational programing.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, Physical Education, or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in recreation management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Skills: Strong leadership and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in budgeting and financial management. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required. Additional relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Park and Recreation Professional) are a plus. Work Environment:

This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Ability to lift and carry recreational equipment.
