Overview

The Director of Recreation is responsible for assisting in the overall operations of the health/fitness center, pool and booking of cabanas including maintaining high standards in club services, pool services and operations, maximizing profitability, increasing sales/memberships and increasing Medallia scores for FIT Waikiki and Pool experience.

 

Responsibilities Employees must, at all times, be attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and fellow employees.Maintain and provide ideas to increase health and fitness revenue.Maintain and provide ideas to increase Cabana revenue.Ensure cost of goods and profit margins are maintained and/or exceeded.Monitor and manage pool cabana and lounge chair rentals through Resort PassMonitor and control departmental expenses and payroll.Ensure all invoices are paid in a timely manner; document all payments. Oversee hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of all health and fitness staff and Pool attendants, with assistance of supervisors when appropriate.Ensure and drive overall associate engagement.Ensure overall member satisfaction.Ensure overall pool experience satisfaction. Create Pool and FIT Activations Create and coordinate pool deck programming. Participate in the development of the health and fitness and recreations operating budget.Maintain communication with all departments of the hotel.Guide and supervise the on-going training program.Maintain knowledge and understanding of each program area and see that programs are continually updated.Research and develop new health and fitness treatments and programs to create new packages.Develop new programs to create an elevated pool experience. Perform duties of reception, health and fitness attendant, pool attendant and sales clerk. Ensure procedures and quality standards are met.Conduct regular health and fitness and pool attendant staff meetings for the purpose of informing, training and inspiring staff.Monitor and maintain the highest level of cleanliness and orderliness of the health and fitness along with the pool facility.Oversee the scheduling of all health and fitness services and pool attendants.Oversee all staff retailing and customer education for product and gift items.Oversee special events, promotions and new launches.Perform daily cash drops according to Highgate Hotel policy.Sign off on all employee time sheets for accuracy.Oversee all aspects of POS system, including verification of correct daily billing via shift end reports.Oversee health and fitness physical plant to ensure facilities and equipment are in proper condition and good working order.Oversee and ensure the pool, cabanas and pool chairs are well maintained and in working order.Assist in ordering equipment and supplies and maintain inventory control for all health and fitness areas along with pool.Assist in planning and coordination of evening seminars/presentations for guests on health and fitness related topics.Assist in reconciliation of monthly general ledger and income statements.Recommend special projects/promotions and execute them as directed by the Director of Operations.Perform daily walk-through inspections and weekly written inspections and follow-up.Ensure quarterly written maintenance inspections.Conduct monthly staff meetings.Oversee training of all health and fitness employees and pool attendants.Purchase monthly sundries.Oversee health and fitness newsletter and marketing collateral production.Answer all guest/member complaints and suggestions.Coach, counsel and conduct performance appraisals for employees.Enforce all health and fitness and hotel policies.Attend all member functions.Participate in Public Relations events as needed. Qualifications 4-year college degree required. Prior Health and Fitness experience preferred.Prior customer service experience required, preferably in the Hospitality field.4 years Front Desk or office supervisory experience required.Sales experience or retail training a plus.Strong skills in Microsoft Office required.Knowledge of the following: building budgets; analyzing income statements; fitness prescription, front desk operation, club maintenance and housekeeping.Flexible and long hours sometimes required.Medium work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required.Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing nametags.Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.Must be able to understand and evaluate complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.Perform other duties as requested by management.Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.Hygiene is key in this environment due to the close proximity of working with the clients.  At no time is cigarette smoke allowed to be on the hands, clothes or breath of a health and fitness employee during a shift.

Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $90,000.000 per year
