The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability (SDSS) seeks a **Director of Research Administration and Compliance** to provide leadership and build community to a distributed team of research administrators and provide guidance and expertise in pre and post award management, research compliance, training and development, and more. The Director will report to the Senior Associate Dean, and will also work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and staff throughout SDSS. This role will collaborate with leaders across SDSS and partner with and serve as an expert resource to the research administration community, this includes faculty, staff, and students. This position will represent the school internally, with central organizations such as the Office of Sponsored Research, the Office of Technology Licensing, Risk Management, Internal Audit, and Financial Management Services. This position will also serve as the school’s representative with external sponsors – both federal and non-federal. **Your Responsibilities will include** **:** + Lead strategic planning and analysis for all functions within the research administration realm including pre and post award management. + Provide strategic leadership to a distributed team of research administrators across the SDSS, ensuring effective pre-award and post-award management practices, serve as primary consultant and subject matter expert. + Develop, implement, and facilitate training programs to enhance understanding of research administration and compliance requirements, and the effectiveness of research project management. + Stay abreast of evolving compliance regulations, research funding opportunities, and best practices in research administration and share relevant updates with the SDSS community. + Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the research administration community across SDSS. + Manage administration, interpretation and compliance of policies and regulations for the School in areas such as: + Conflict of Interest and Conflict of Commitment, including review and monitoring of annual and ad-hoc disclosures, including the development and implementation of management plans; + eCertification oversight and escalation + Export Controls, foreign engagement and restricted party screening + Data use agreements; Non-disclosure agreements + Review and/or negotiate research-related agreements on behalf of the School, including service agreements, MOUs, etc. + Industrial affiliate programs + Waiver requests (PI and IDC) + Seed grant programs and limited submission review process + Develop metrics and reporting mechanisms to support sponsored activities across SDSS + Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external audits related to sponsored research and research compliance + Provide leadership and act as a consultant on research administration issues. + Provide escalated review and guidance on complex sponsored agreement terms, as needed. * _The job duties listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification and are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities. Employees may also perform other duties as assigned._ **To be successful in this position, you will need:** + Bachelor’s degree and ten years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. + Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries. + Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills. + Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving. + Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources. + Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships. + Relevant subject matter expertise in research administration. + Strong project planning and management skills. + Experience in or knowledge of business process improvement methodology. + Ability to act independently and as part of a team. **In addition, our preferred requirements include** **:** + Advanced expertise in research administration, including significant experience in pre-award and post-award processes, compliance, and training. + Advanced expertise, in grants and contract administration, as well as research compliance. + Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to mentor, inspire, and develop a diverse community of research administration professionals. + Strong understanding of federal and state regulations related to research compliance, funding agency policies, and university research administration. + Knowledge of and experience with Industrial Affiliate Programs & Faculty Conflict of Interest and Conflict of Commitment Policies + Demonstrated leadership and supervisory, planning, and change management skills. + Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with a strong ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. + Proven ability to analyze complex problems, develop innovative solutions, and implement effective strategies in a dynamic environment. + Experience in engaging with external sponsors and fostering partnerships that advance research priorities. + High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills + Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships across a wide variety of audiences + Advanced expertise in relevant computer applications and databases. + Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Administration, Business Administration, Research Administration, Law) or equivalent experience. * _Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide reasonable accommodations to applicants and employees with disabilities.
