Director of Safety

A Day in the Life:

The Director of Safety is a key leadership role with the Hertz Safety and Security team. This position will report directly to the Senior Director, Global Safety and Security. Hertz follows a core roadmap focused on Our People – Our Customers – Our Assets – Our Shareholders and the Director of Safety will lead the charge in one of the most critical areas to “Put Safety First.” A key prerequisite will be the ability to foster a culture of safety across all levels of the organization and the selected candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead a safety culture involving initiatives to minimize risks, conduct safety training, seek continuous improvement in safety performance, and measuring and monitoring progress. The selected candidate will be directly responsible for leadership of the North American team of Regional Safety Managers. To facilitate the data driven decision-making process at the Senior Leadership Level, data collection, analysis, and reporting will be a critical component of this position. 

This position will be located at Hertz Global Headquarters in Estero, FL or other major Hertz locations such as Atlanta, GA. Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, or Denver, CO.

The salary for this position is $130,000/yr

 

What You’ll Do:

Safety Strategy and Leadership:

· Serve as the direct supervisor for U.S. and Canada based Regional Safety Managers; Have overall responsibility for all Safety related issues in North America

· Develop and implement safety policies and procedures across the organization; Work closely with Director, Physical Security and other departments to establish Disaster Preparedness Plans

· Lead safety initiatives, fostering a company culture that incorporates Safety as a foundational pillar.

· Collaborate with senior leadership to integrate safety into business operations.

· Ability to coordinate closely with Corporate Security, Risk Management, Operations, Legal, and Compliance related to investigations and incidents.

Compliance and Risk Management:

· Ensure compliance with local, state, provincial, and federal safety regulations.

· Conduct regular safety audits and inspections.

· Investigate accidents and incidents, identifying areas for improvement.

· Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, industry peers, and safety experts.

· Collaborate with Hertz teams to promote safety training services.

Data Collection and Reporting:

· Demonstrate expertise in the collection, management, analysis, and reporting of Safety data.

· Experience with national level safety reporting metrics and demonstrate the ability to apply the same metrics to the business. Demonstrate the ability to analyze the data to determine areas for improvement.

· Prepare both detailed and executive level reports for leadership.

What We’re Looking For:

· 10+ years of progressive experience in safety management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience in a major corporate environment preferred, however significant experience outside of the corporate environment may be considered.

· Proven track record of developing and executing successful safety programs in a similar industry

· Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

· Professional safety certification such as CSP is highly desirable

· Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and influence others.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with all levels of the organization.

· In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry standards required. Familiarity with Bureau of Labor Statistics and understanding of measurements of incident rates highly preferred; OSHA 30 or higher certification is required.

· Experience with safety training program development and delivery.

· Strong background in Data Analysis with the ability to identify trends and implement strategic solutions.

· Willingness to travel as needed to various company locations and sites.

· Willingness to support other duties as assigned in support of the Safety and Security team, including areas that may be outside of traditional Safety duties.
