POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Tonja M. Williams Knight, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree, a permanent New York State teaching certificate in Special Education and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA/SDL) certificate. Candidates must have a minimum of five years combined teaching and administrative experience with a minimum of two (2) years at the administrative level. Candidates with prior experience in an urban school district with a large racially and ethnically diverse population are preferred. Knowledge of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, Part 200 Students with Disabilities required.
DUTIES:
The Director of Special Education will report to the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
+ Lead efforts related to the Committee on Special Education, including compliance, and monitoring of building and central staff
+ Maintain data related to CSE compliance, service needs, trends, special transportation, 1:1 aides and all related areas
+ Coordinate and administer all areas of Special Education for the successful operation of the department, supervise and facilitate the development of leadership and technical skills of certified staff
+ Design, adapt and implement department procedures to ensure compliance and improve services to students with a disability serviced in agency settings
+ Assist with the selection of Special Education Department staff
+ Supervise the work of staff to ensure that the process and procedures used in the Department are congruent with district needs, expectations and policies
+ Assist in preparing and facilitating the departmental budget to ensure that the district’s resources are managed efficiently and appropriately to include Federal and State grants
+ Assist in the planning and implementation of the district’s professional development program and model the personal and professional expectations held for district personnel by demonstrating a commitment to growth and renewal
+ Complete Annual Performance Reviews for Special Education staff and supervisors
+ Attend required district and department meetings
+ All other duties deemed appropriate
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following the assessment of training, experience, credentials, evaluation of service, program needs, and personal interview.
