If Temporary, enter End Date: Position Summary The Director is responsible for the SUNY Cortland Child Care Center program’s personnel, manages finances and the budget, develops the Center’s programs and operates the Center in compliance with all New York State Department of Child and Family Services school agency licensing and regulatory requirements and all other applicable local, state or federal laws.

Major Responsibilities The Director is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations and administration of the Center’s programs. Major duties include recruiting and enrolling children to ensure maximum capacity at all times, planning staffing to meet DSS ratios, overseeing long range planning and programming for the Center in conjunction with the Board of Directors, overseeing the planning and development of the daily program activities of the Center to promote the optimum development of the children, overseeing each classroom regularly, and providing staff with feedback and assistance where necessary to best meet the children’s developmental needs.
Demonstrates and applies sound knowledge of business and fiscal management
Develop, implement, and monitor the program’s budget in conjunction with the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors. Monitor income and expenditure levels regularly to ensure a financially sound operation. Keep expenditures within budgetary limits. Maintain current tuition and fee collections. Participate in the planning and coordination of fundraising efforts of the Board of Directors and families. Oversee and ensure the proper maintenance of the program’s financial records, accounts and reports which include but are not limited to grants, fundraising, tuition payments, disbursements and employee payroll and benefit records. Review accounts regularly. Assure the provision of monthly financial reports to the Finance Committee. Include staff in the fiscal planning process. Accomplish goals and handles emergencies with minimal disruption of day- to-day operations. Demonstrates strong problem-solving capabilities; approaches problems in a logical manner; develops and applies new approaches as needed. Investigates the availability of grant funding and prepares and submits applications for funding when appropriate.
Manages the program of early childhood development and education
Recruit and enroll children to always ensure maximum capacity. Plan staffing needed to meet DSS ratios. Oversee long range planning and programming for the Center in conjunction with the Board of Directors. Oversee the planning and development of the daily program activities of the Center to promote the optimum development of the children. Oversee each classroom regularly, provides staff with feedback and assistance where necessary to best meet the children’s developmental needs. Keep informed of current developments in the childhood field of education to maintain quality programming for the program Consult with families and staff to determine the initial placement of all new enrollees and in planning the transition process. Maintains NAEYC and Accreditation guidelines.
Works with staff to accomplish program objectives
Plan, organize schedule, and delegate work effectively and efficiently. Maximize staff skills and available resources. Establish and maintain effective working relations with staff. Oversee and participate in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of staff in accordance with Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity laws governing the hiring practices for the Research Foundation at SUNY Cortland which include state and federal laws. Provide an orientation to the program for all staff and assign duties according to the job description and need. Provide overall supervision and guidance to program staff; conducts staff evaluations on a regular basis according to established guidelines. Make staff assignments and ensure appropriate classroom coverage. Conduct regular staff meetings to foster open communication between administration and staff to develop program programs and to encourage staff input on program issues. Assist staff in the organization of work and encourages good time management. Keep staff appraised of policy and/or procedural changes that affect program operations. Provide staff development by encouraging continuing education and promoting in-service training and workshops. Recruit auxiliary staff and provide orientation to the program. Serve as substitute of the last resort when efforts to obtain another substitute are unsuccessful
Develops and maintains community, family and board relations
Provide information to families on updates and changes in the program. Foster and maintain community relations. Keep informed of community resources such as health, education and social services and use them to supplement and enrich the services and program. Provide tours and information to prospective families. Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors. Implement policy set by the Board of Directors and the Research Foundation effectively communicates these to the families and staff of the program. Attend all board meetings, except when excused and provides monthly reports on the program’s activities.

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a closely related field. At least 5 years’ experience working with children in a teaching position or administering childcare. Working knowledge of OCFS regulations, QUALITYstarsNY guidelines, and NAEYC accreditation. Demonstrated experience supervising others, in a work and/or teaching setting. CPR and first aid certifications Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in early childhood studies or relevant area. Experience administering in an early childcare facility and/or program. Demonstrated budget and financial management, fundraising and grant writing experience.
