Director of Training
SERV Behavioral Health System
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Quality and Compliance, the Director of Training will ensure SERV Behavioral Health System (SBHS) employees receive initial orientation and ongoing training. The Director of Training prepares managers and employees to accomplish job results by identifying training needs and offering programs to meet those needs. The Director of Training supports SBHS by planning, coordinating, and providing quality learning experiences for all members of SBHS including SERV staff members and persons in recovery. The Director of Training is responsible for ensuring training compliance in accordance with State and Federal regulatory requirements. The Director of Training leads the team to update and develop course curricula and deliver training in a positive engaging adult learning environment.
The Director of Training will facilitate effective decision making and collaboration with operations, and manage alignment with SBHS organizational goals, quality improvement plans, compliance plans and risk management programs to meet and exceed service delivery expectations and measure success for continuous improvement. Responsibilities
+ Ensure Compliance with Federal and State Laws, Regulations, and Licensing Requirements
+ Implement, review and evaluate training programs for compliance with Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services DMHAS) regulations, Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) regulations, and Division of Development Disabilities (DDD) regulations and circulars regarding training.
+ Ensures compliance with accrediting bodies with which the corporation participates regarding training.
+ Ensures adherence to the integrity of all program models used by the corporation.
+ Develops a system to assure all staff is current on all training required by DDD, DMHAS, DYFS, and SERV and tracks the documentation of such training.
Ensure Training Department Supports the mission of SERV
+ Satisfies training and development needs by researching, designing, or purchasing training programs and media; introducing new trends in training and development.
+ Plan, develop, and provide training and staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, online training, conferences and workshops.
+ Identifies training and development needs by analyzing organization results, job requirements, operational problems, plans and forecasts, and current training programs.
+ Identifies outside resources for training needs that are not being met in-house.
+ Develops training programs and activities designed to ensure the delivery of quality services to meet the needs of the consumer populations.
+ Evaluate instructor performance and the effectiveness of training programs, providing improvement when needed.
+ Develop testing and evaluation procedures for internal training.
+ Develop and organize training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
+ Confer with residential directors and conduct surveys to identify training needs based on consumer needs, changes, and other factors.
+ Selects and maintains training equipment by evaluating equipment and service capabilities; arranging for repair or replacement.
+ Will research/review Evidence Based Practices for possible implementation in SERV programs.
+ Communicates with regional director on staff development, mandatory training, remedial training, elective training, outside training and tuition reimbursement.
+ Cooperates with Quality Assurance on measuring the effectiveness of training and identifying training needs.
Provide Staff Training
+ Delivers training activities alone and with other trainers during new staff orientation, pre-service training, mandatory annual trainings and other training as assigned.
+ Train instructors and supervisors in techniques and skills for training and dealing with employees.
+ Develop training opportunities for consumers and their families that meet consumers’ recovery needs.
+ Actively involved in the provision of measures to ensure a culturally competent workforce.
Clinical Knowledge and Assessment Skills
+ Demonstrates knowledge of developmental disabilities, learning characteristics and mental illness.
+ Demonstrates the ability to be empathetic, non-judgmental and respectful toward trainees.
+ Demonstrates awareness of adult learning theories/styles.
Leadership Skills
+ Maintains timely supervisions with members of the training team.
+ Role models appropriate boundaries and professional behavior.
+ Maintains training and development staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training instructors and support personnel.
+ Maintains training and development staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining instructors and support personnel; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
+ Coordinates training resources and opportunities for all regions.
+ Facilitates and/or participates in general staff meetings, clinical, management meetings and assigned committees or special projects/task forces.
+ Appropriately represents the agency in the community to develop positive community relationships.
+ Effectively communicates agency mission, values and vision to community providers.
Documentation
+ Identifies proper forms of documentation, follows procedures for their completion and provides appropriate disposition of forms.
+ Completes necessary documentation on time, according to policy and procedures.
+ Communicates effectively in writing. Written communication is legible, timely, concise and appropriate.
+ Able to identify the location of and retrieve documentation to verify staffs’ receipt of all training topics.
Qualifications & Skills
+ Familiarity with New Jersey mental health and DDD regulations preferred.
+ Ability to respond with flexibility and efficiency to frequent changes in task focus, competing priorities, and multiple deadlines.
+ Excellent verbal and written communications skills and presentation skills.
+ Ability to work quickly and accurately under minimum supervision with close attention to detail.
+ Computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); experience with learning management software strongly preferred.
+ Ability to make independent decisions and sound judgments.
+ Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
+ Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to program sites throughout New Jersey.
Required Licenses or Experience
+ Bachelor’s Degree (Masters preferred) with at least 5 years of applicable experience in a leadership role within the behavioral healthcare field. Experience in organizational development/ training/ adult learning preferred.
+ Valid driver’s license in the state of residence plus three-year driving history and a driving record in good standing at the time of hire.
+ Red Cross Trainer Certification preferred.
+ Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Trainer Certification preferred.
+ LMS administration experience preferred.
