The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks. The Operational Risk Management (ORM) team facilitates and monitors the implementation of effective operational risk management programs throughout the company, and oversees risk ownership throughout business units, products, and processes. The objective of the ORM Governance team is to develop, oversee and strengthen the organization’s ORM framework to ensure that governance structures, policies, and procedures are robust, effective, and align with regulatory requirements and best practices. ORM Governance is looking for a Director of Capabilities, Tech and Product Strategy to lead the development, enhancement, and implementation of technology, capabilities, and product strategies within the Global Risk and Compliance organization. This role focuses on driving operational risk transformation by aligning business needs with technological solutions, ensuring scalability, regulatory compliance, and innovation. The Director will collaborate closely with stakeholders across risk, compliance, and IT to deliver effective tools and systems that enhance the risk management framework. **Responsibilities:** + Lead the **strategic development of risk and compliance technology capabilities** that support the operational risk management framework, including risk identification, monitoring, reporting, and control. + Oversee the **design and implementation of product strategies** that enhance operational risk systems, working closely with business units to ensure alignment with risk transformation goals. + Manage and prioritize a **portfolio of technology initiatives** that improve risk data management, workflow automation, and regulatory compliance tools. + Collaborate with global risk leaders, compliance teams, and technology stakeholders to **identify emerging risks** and **build innovative solutions** that address these risks effectively. + Drive the **adoption of advanced technologies** such as AI, machine learning, and data analytics within operational risk management processes. + Ensure that the risk and compliance technology solutions **meet regulatory standards** and are adaptable to evolving global regulatory environments. + Lead cross-functional teams to **implement large-scale risk transformation projects** , ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery. + Monitor and improve **end-to-end risk capabilities** through continuous evaluation of systems, tools, and processes, ensuring they are effective in mitigating risks. + Ensure seamless **integration of risk management systems** across the organization, enabling comprehensive risk reporting and insights for senior management. + Provide **thought leadership** in risk and compliance capabilities, keeping up with industry trends, innovations, and best practices to drive continuous improvement. **Requirements:** + **7-10 years of experience** in operational risk management, compliance, or risk technology, with a proven track record of leading capabilities and product strategy initiatives. + Experience in **managing risk transformation projects** , particularly in building and implementing large-scale technology platforms. + Demonstrated expertise in **developing product and technology roadmaps** , with a focus on operational risk, compliance, and regulatory requirements. + Understanding of **global risk management frameworks** , and familiarity with financial industry regulations, including Basel, SOX, and CCAR. + Proven ability to drive **technological innovation** in risk and compliance, with hands-on experience using **AI, machine learning** , and advanced analytics. + Experience in managing cross-functional teams and working with senior stakeholders to **align technology and business strategies** in risk management. + **Strong analytical and problem-solving skills** , with the ability to assess complex risk environments and deliver effective solutions. + **Excellent communication and leadership skills** , with the ability to lead diverse teams and present risk management solutions to senior leadership. + A bachelor’s degree in **Risk Management, Business, Technology, or related field** is required ORMCM **Qualifications** Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
