Director - Payroll

The Director of Payroll is a critical team member that is responsible for providing strategic direction for all Payroll processes consisting of approximately 2,000 team members. The ideal candidate is experienced in Payroll and has a passion for creating innovative payroll solutions. Responsible for payroll strategy, planning, and communications as well as the day-to-day management of payroll processing, supporting new and existing pay programs, developing strong driver/carrier relationships, and driving process standardization, automation, efficiency and effectiveness. This position will foster relationships with senior internal stakeholders by establishing and maintaining exceptional business relationships and working collaboratively with other teams including HR, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Employee Benefits, Compensation, IT, and Finance. Finally, this position will be responsible for the coaching, mentoring and leadership of the team that provides the day-to-day payroll support. The Director of Payroll will report to the Vice President of Receivables and Settlements.
Duties/Responsibilities: Oversee payroll operations to ensure compliance with all corporate and local-specific policies and procedures.Lead payroll strategy and related processes within the context of a rapidly evolving environment to provide tactical direction and support to Operations and beyond.Develop key performance indicators to measure health of payroll operations and compare against industry benchmarks.Build partnerships and solicit feedback from internal and external business partners to define and develop successful, scalable processes and practices.Coach, mentor and provide leadership development to team members to optimize performance and foster talent.Drive appropriate consistent processes across the businesses and coordinate process standardization.Ensure process design supports fiscal and regulatory compliance.Manage the weekly payroll and settlement processing.Resolve payroll related issues for team members, HR, management, and driver development team as needed.Ensure consistency and application of federal, state, and local tax guidelines.Provide timely, complete, and accurate reporting to internal and external customers.Support acquisition efforts from a payroll due diligence, data gathering Job Summary:

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field. 10+ years related experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Experience working with UKG preferred; deep knowledge & experience working with payroll vendors & platform technologies. Must be able to analyze requirements presented and convert to practical applications used with various payroll systems, payroll projects, controls, process flows, system/process integrations, etc.
Communication Skills: Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills. Will liaison with many other departments and must be able to articulate interactions and impacts of projects to payroll related systems and processes.
Special Skills: Ability to work effectively across all levels & layers of the organization. Previous experience with HR and payroll processes, payroll and labor laws, payment/deduction laws, garnishment and overpayment laws, multi-state/local and federal tax withholding and reporting is preferred, but not required.
