Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Director of Perioperative Services is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of the Perioperative Services department at [Hospital Name]. This includes direct and indirect oversight of all aspects of patient care and daily operations, ensuring compliance with professional standards, strategic business objectives, and regulatory requirements (e.g., The Joint Commission). The Director manages the department through a team of subordinate managers, holding 24-hour administrative authority and accountability.
Key responsibilities include:
Operational Excellence: Implementing and monitoring processes to reduce surgical site infections, optimizing surgical case flow, and managing the departmental budget to achieve cost-effectiveness while maintaining adequate inventory levels. This includes forecasting, variance analysis, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.Clinical Leadership: Collaborating with the Medical Director and other department leaders to integrate and coordinate all phases of patient care, ensuring the highest quality surgical care and positive patient outcomes. This includes actively participating in performance improvement initiatives focused on reducing complications, improving patient satisfaction, and enhancing safety.Staff Management: Supervising, mentoring, and evaluating a team of subordinate managers and staff, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management. Addressing employee relations issues and fostering a positive work environment.Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory standards and accreditation requirements, including participation in internal and external audits.Strategic Planning: Contributing to the development and implementation of the hospital's strategic plan, specifically as it relates to perioperative services. This includes providing input to the hospital President on operational issues and representing the department on regional committees and internal management teams.Qualifications
Education/Work Experience RequirementsBachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field, graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of six years of recent work experienc perioperative nursing that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities, including three years in a supervisory or management capacity.Equivalent additional qualifying work experience that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities may be substituted for two years of the degree requirement.Licensure/Certification
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Washington State Board of Nursing.
Current healthcare provider BLS certification.
