The role involves planning, program development, and coordination of CAP's preparedness and emergency response activities, including coordination and leadership of enterprise-wide planning, operations, and communication. The Director serves as a key liaison between CAP staff and members, government agencies, healthcare providers, industry, and diverse stakeholder groups, ensuring effective support for pathologists and laboratory professionals nationwide and globally. Specific Duties Primary duties and responsibilities: Strategic Planning and Leadership 1. Lead strategy development and execution of public health programs and policies aligned with CAP's goals, objectives, and mission. 2. Collaborate closely with CAP's Washington Office, including regulatory and legislative teams, to ensure alignment of public health initiatives with CAP's advocacy priorities and regulatory compliance requirements. 3. Collaborate with the Council on Scientific Affairs and other scientific committees and councils to develop and implement evidence-based guidelines and recommendations for laboratory practice during public health emergencies. 4. Monitor and analyze emerging public health trends, particularly those affecting pathology and laboratory medicine, and provide recommendations to address challenges. 5. Conduct strategic response planning in consultation with the executive leadership team, prioritizing activities informed by real-time situational awareness. 6. Serve as a public health preparedness expert, offering guidance to executive leadership and association members. Emergency Preparedness and Response 1. As delegated by the CEO, serve as Incident Manager for CAP in the event of a public health emergency. 2. In collaboration with the Chief Operations Officer, maintain CAP's Emergency Operations Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan. 3. Coordinate internal and external efforts to meet member needs during urgent and emergency incidents. 4. Synthesize complex concepts and policy issues into key messages and actionable steps for the executive leadership team. 5. In collaboration with CAP’s strategic communications team, advise and prepare spokespeople for CAP in public health emergencies and pathology-related issues. Program Development and Management 1. Design, implement, and evaluate public health programs, campaigns, and events using evidence-based practices. 2. Monitor program effectiveness and oversee budgets, resources, and personnel involved in public health projects. 3. Develop and implement training programs for pathologists and laboratory professionals 4. Work with CAP staff, members, and partners to develop guidelines and best practices for pathologists and laboratory professionals in response to public health emergencies. 5. Partner with CAP's Laboratory Accreditation Program teams to ensure alignment of emergency response protocols with accreditation requirements and to provide guidance on laboratory preparedness standards. Knowledge/Skills Required/Preferred • Strong knowledge of public health principles, policies, and practices • Risk communication, message development, and media management expertise • Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal skills • Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape affecting pathology and laboratory medicine • Proven experience with emergency response planning and project/resource management • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities • Proficient in data analysis and interpretation to support decision-making • Strong digital/computing technical skills • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders Education/Experience Education • Master's degree in public health, emergency preparedness, or related field (PhD or DrPH preferred) or equivalent work experience in the field. Experience • Demonstrated success in program development, implementation, and evaluation • Prior experience in health-related not-for-profit environment preferred Additional Criteria This role involves significant travel to attend meetings, conferences, and community events. The work environment includes office settings and public forums. Work location is Northfield, IL. Candidate must reside within 75 miles of the Northfield headquarters.
