As a result of a period of significant growth and appointments on several new and exciting mandates, JLL Rating are looking for a dynamic and proactive director to join our experienced, diverse team.
The JLL Rating team extends comprises 60 dedicated professionals and operates across our network of JLL offices within the UK. The team are responsible for advising on and managing client’s business rates liabilities, with a focus on delivering industry leading advice and maintaining strong relationships with each client.
The role requires individuals to be qualified rating surveyors with experience in business rates advice with knowledge of the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) Check, Challenge, Appeal systems, and effective ways to reduce client’s exposure to business rates.
The JLL Rating team advise on a wide range of assets for a variety of different sized clients. This role will involve focus and expertise in dealing with the bulk commercial property types – office, industrial and retail properties in London and the south east of England.
The role is based within JLL’s London office at 30 Warwick Street, W1 but will move to our new office at 1 Broadgate, EC2 in 2026.

Deliver excellent client serviceDeliver regular and accurate client reportsSchedule and attend client update meetings regularlyInspect client’s properties and measure buildings accurately for the purposes of business rates valuationCheck client business rate demands and refunds accuratelyIdentify and action rate saving opportunities for clientsContribute to achieving client and JLL Rating financial targetsManage your diary, meetings, inspections, and any expenses efficiently and independentlyManage and liaise with other JLL teams and other industry professionals to provide an excellent comprehensive service to the clientFile the necessary high-quality submissions to the VOA to challenge and reduce client’s business rates liabilities where recommendedTake necessary action on all forthcoming Check, Challenge and Appeal deadlines with the VOA and Valuation TribunalPresent cases to Valuation TribunalUnderstand and deliver strategies around vacancy levels within a propertyKnowledge & Experience
Up to date knowledge and experience in applying the legislation that governs business rates to make informed recommendations to clientsDemonstrable technical competence in providing business rates advice to clientsBasic IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams)Industry specific packages (e.g. Riverlake, Analyse, Rates Data, Experian Goad, CalcuRate)Qualified Chartered Surveyor with background in commercial practice surveying within either a corporate, public sector or private practiceLikely to possess at least 5 years plus post-qualification experience working in a Rating teamAble to build and maintain client relationshipsBuild and maintain relationships with other parts of the wider JLL teamBe able to recognise opportunities for selling additional services to clients, including cross sellingAble to work as part of a team, supporting other team members and recognising the work of othersBe articulate, professional, and persuasive with a good telephone manner and good report writing skillsGood client and internal presentation skillsLocation:
