JOB TITLE: Director Safety AGENCY: Construction & Development DEPT/DIV: Delivery/Bridges & Tunnels REPORTS TO: Senior Director Safety WORK LOCATION: 2 Broadway HOURS OF WORK: 8 : 3 0 AM to 5: 0 0 P M or as required (7.5HR/ DAY ) HAY POINTS: 954 SALARY RANGE: $129,018 to $167,879 DEADLINE: Open Until Filled S ummary The Director of Safety provides leadership and coaching for all safety and health matters to construction site management teams, emphasizing front-line supervision. This position assertively manages post-incident matters, including incident investigations, post-incident action items, Worker's Compensation claims, and Early and Safe Return to Work initiatives. Responsibilities Conducts periodic inspections and audits of various construction sites and specific positions to identify unsafe hazards and/or conditions. Makes recommendations and facilitates the implementation of effective measures per the hierarchy of safeguarding controls and MTA C&D standards to eliminate or significantly reduce hazards to an acceptable level. Facilitates and attends monthly Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, providing guidance and expertise on safety and health matters. Ensures that all meeting action items are followed up on through to completion. Develops and facilitates various training programs, including orientation, mobile equipment, ergonomics, material handling, workplace-specific hazardous materials, and several others as required. Develops and regularly oversees comprehensive Job Safety Analysis for all positions throughout the construction sites. Maintains exceptionally detailed documentation about all safety and health matters, including incident reports, risk assessments, Workers' Compensation documentation, and other documentation as required. Provides regular progress updates to the Safety Director. Assists in safety-related matters at other MTA C&D facilities and job sites as required. Remains informed on new legislation and regulations and ensure s compliance as required. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Safety Management or Construction Safety. Master ' s degree preferred. Must have a minimum of twelve (12) years of related experience. Must have a minimum of six (6) years in a management or supervisory role and/or safety manager role in a large, multi-faceted organization. Competencies: Able to demonstrate technical construction safety knowledge, including but not limited to fall protection, scaffolding, confined spaces, cranes/rigging, material handling and general hazard recognition. Working knowledge of essential software : Word, Excel, Outlook, PlanGrid, Bluebeam and a general understanding of working on a computer. Effective communicator verbally, written and electronically. Driver ' s License (required). Ability to conduct field observations/audits, including coaching and correcting. Interpersonal communication skills with the ability to review and suggest improvements to task planning in the field. Organization and time management skills. Must work effectively in the office and on job sites, indoor s and outdoor s , during all weather conditions. Able to immediately visit job sites for any incident (injury, accident, near miss) to review and perform follow-up actions. Able to participate in intercompany, industry, and client relations. Possess a valid OSHA 30-hour card in the construction industry that is less than five years old. Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification. First Aid/CPR Certified.
