Newmont's history in BC and ongoing mission:In recent history, Newmont signalled a renewed interest in BC by acquiring a 50% stake in the Galore Creek project in 2018, a joint-venture with Teck Resources and North America’s largest undeveloped copper deposit. In 2019, we acquired Goldcorp and located our North American Regional Business Hub in Vancouver.
Our foothold in British Columbia has been strengthened by the acquisition of two key assets: the Brucejack Mine and the Red Chris Mine. Both are world-class operations with long-term potential and our attention now turns to safely, efficiently, and responsibly integrating the new assets and people into Newmont’s proven operating model.
The Red Chris Mine in particular, presents a transformational opportunity. As we look to the future, the next phase of mining at Red Chris will be an underground block cave, a project that is subject to a Tahltan consent based decision.
