Job DescriptionThis position is responsible for leading the Strategic Partnerships Office at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado in its mission to develop strategic partnerships that increase the impact of NREL’s mission.
NREL's Strategic Partnerships Office is part of the Innovation, Partnering and Outreach (IPO) Directorate at NREL. As the Director of the Strategic Partnerships Office, you will lead a highly productive and motivated team that develops strategic non-DOE partnerships for NREL that leverage the labs distinctive competencies and capabilities to increase mission impact. In 2023, NREL launched, Impact26, which ensures a partnerships portfolio that strategically positions NREL to expand impact and be a resilient laboratory. As the Director of the Strategic Partnerships Office, you will work closely with the Science and Technology Directorates to secure partnerships that meet the goals of Impact26 and increase NREL’s impact through delivery of those partnerships. To advance IPO’s and NREL’s strategy and mission, you will work closely with other IPO Offices including the Technology Transfer Office (TTO), Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (IEC), and the Business Management Office (BMO) as part of the IPO Leadership team.
As the Director of the Strategic Partnerships Office you will responsible for all personnel-related issues and decisions related to personnel, such as career development, business development and partner management skills, Human Resource topics, job satisfaction, and performance.
Key functions of this position include:
Guide the team responsible for the development and capture of strategic partnerships across a range of market sectors to increase the mission impact of the LabWorking with laboratory management and through the Strategic Partnerships Office, lead the Impact26 initiative across NREL Develop and execute the Impact26 partnership strategy that drives high impact external engagements, diversifies funding for NREL and provides interesting and engaging work, career growth, and leadership opportunities for researchersWork across a broad range of internal stakeholders to ensure partnership goals and strategies are well understood and viewed as critical to mission successCollaborate with S&T delivery organizations to continually align and adjust Business Development (BD) focus with Directorate and Center strategies to achieve Impact26 goalsCollaborate with S&T delivery organizations to develop related annual bookings targets that support the Directorates annual business volume goalsCollaborate with S&T leadership to ensure timely access to critical BD and technical subject matter experts (SMEs) in S&T directorates to support both business development and partnership delivery goalsOversee the development and execution of large events that are integral to NREL’s business development strategy such as the annual Partner ForumRecruit, develop, train, and motivate staff to establish long-term, strategic partnerships with mission-aligned organizationsEnsure Office performance meets or exceeds annual performance goals including return on investment, bookings, financial/budget performance, and staff career/professional developmentWork with other members of IPO management and support team to ensure resources needed for organizational success and well-being are planned and available including space (workspace, collaboration space, partner space), communications support, IT and business systems resources, financial management support, HR and hiring/recruitment support, and training and professional developmentWork in close collaboration as a member of the Directorate leadership team reporting directly to the Associate Laboratory Director to achieve directorate and Lab goals

Basic QualificationsRelevant Bachelors Degree and twenty years experience; Or relevant Masters Degree and 18 years experience; Or relevant PhD and 15 years experience.Equivalent relevant experience may be substituted for education.
Ten or more years of management, budget, administrative, program strategy development and implementation experience.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)Job Profile: Office Director / Annual Salary Range: $169,000 - $304,200NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
