Director (Strategic Transmission Planning)

Position Summary

Provide strategic development and implementation oversight of Xcel Energy's transmission planning in all Operating Company jurisdictions while meeting regulatory, corporate, operational and financial goals. Provide coordinated vision, leadership, direction and support to the transmission planning in each jurisdiction, including communication strategies, working with leadership and various functional teams to refine and execute the project plans, and establishing and cultivating key business relationships. Provide leadership, coordination, and technical expertise to ensure the scope of the transmission plans are developed on time to meet regulatory milestones, and within financial guidelines. Facilitate inter- and intra-company issue identification and resolution necessary to keep the all transmission planning initiatives on track.

Essential Responsibilities

Lead business vision and strategic development for all transmission initiatives (example: CapX2020 transmission initiative). Provide proactive leadership in the development of strategic plans and long term goals for the initiatives. Coordinate high level development and lead and manage the execution of all transmission planning activities in all four Operating Company jurisdictions. Assess opportunities for transmission investment and strategic fit under initiative umbrellas. Provide strategic guidance and lead efforts to gain regulatory approval of proposed transmission projects/plans through negotiations and filing. Supervise and coordinate the development of transmission plans, budgets and resources to accomplish overall Transmission objectives.

Collaborate and coordinate with Xcel Energy business units in order to align interests and support the development and implementation of the all transmission plans.

Monitor current and emerging external policy issues and develop and execute strategies to provide opportunities or overcome challenges for the transmission plans .

Provide transmission planning leadership to and supervision of dedicated initiative personnel, to maximize productivity and teamwork and cross-pollinating best practices across the enterprise, which includes providing work direction, managing performance, supporting training and development, administering company policies, fostering positive employee relations, and leading continuous process efforts.

Collaborate with other Transmission group to ensure timely execution of the projects.

Collaborate with Transmission leadership to strategize and help develop new business opportunities.


Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.

10 years related utility experience including 5 years of leadership experience.

Project management and public policy experience.

Demonstrated collaborative leadership skills.

Preferred Requirements

MBA or JD degree.

Has worked with ISO/RTOs to advance transmission policy and development, deep understanding of utility regulatory and financial practices, ability to serve or has served as an expert witness in regulatory proceedings.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $144,800.00 to $205,600.00 per year
