Director - Surgical Services (PreOp/PACU, OR/Endoscopy) - Full Time - Days

Plans and directs daily operations to coordinate corporate, hospital and unit goals, and provides leadership, direction, and guidance to the Department of Surgical Services (including PreOp, PACU, OR, Endoscopy).

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Performs all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and responsible manner.

2. Leads the departments in providing a vision for its direction and embraces the change process to achieve the vision.

3. Effectively makes decisions to achieve desired outcomes.

4. Coaches and facilitates the growth and development of employees within the department.

5. Manages daily operation to achieve goals for the department.

6. Strives for continuous improvement by focusing on key department systems.

7. Develops an environment for success through team participation.

8. Sets goals, objectives, and environment to achieve alignment of hospital and corporation.

9. Interviews applicants and selects quality personnel who share similar values and philosophy as the organization.

10. Coordinates departmental orientation for all newly appointed associates to ensure a clear understanding of position responsibilities, departmental/unit policies/procedures protocols, standards of care, and procedures, fire and safety regulations, and other department specific requirements.

11. Completes annual performance appraisal. Coaches and guides associate to achieve performance expectations of their positions.

12. Coordinates ongoing training for departmental personnel in order to create interest and challenge in associates to improve competency levels. Specific in services are documented in the departmental employee file and group-training programs are noted in departmental meeting minutes.

13. Insures the completion/distribution of departmental staffing schedules within established time frames.

14. Manages the financial and physical resources of the specified areas within the fiscal and productivity guidelines of the organization.

15. Recommends the annual departmental budget(s) within the hospital’s procedures and time frames.

16. Demonstrates a clear ability to adjust supply inventories, equipment, or capital expenditures to reflect activity and service measured by operating and productivity statistics of the department.

17. Assesses the number and skill mix of personnel needed to provide quality service and adjusts staffing assignments accordingly. Demonstrated by meeting benchmarked productivity goals.

18. Anticipates technology growth and development in department, managing its use to enhance quality services and improve productivity.

19. Evaluates department’s resources utilization and implements improvements that will enhance the resources of the overall organization.

20. Demonstrates the ability to use all methods of communication to address inter and intra departmental concerns, problem-solve, address conflict, and create trust.

21. Functions as a role model by maintaining effective working relationships with all members of the hospital and medical staffs through cooperation, coordination, and mutual respect displayed while interfacing on an interdepartmental and multi-disciplinary basis.

22. Demonstrates a positive problem-solving approach indicated by a resolution to mutual satisfaction from the other parties (i.e., patients, physicians, visitors, associates, co-workers, etc.).

23. Participates in community and/or professional organizations in order to promote the service of the department and the image of the hospital.

24. Coordinates and develops unit specific continuous quality process that compliments the hospital quality initiatives.

25. Develops and maintains current best practices and ensures these standards are followed.

26. Promotes the implementation of a unit-based case management system through development and use of critical pathways to guide delivery of care.

27. Maintains compliance with Joint Commission (ACHC for Hickman) and other regulatory agencies.

28. Conducts on site rounds to review the quality of service and compliance with safety.

29. Ensures departmental policies, decisions, and actions demonstrate regard for the rights, dignity, respect and confidentiality of all patients, family members, visitors, and the organization’s associate staff.

30. Maintains environment conducive to safe, efficient, patient-centered quality care. Strives to constantly identify and improve the elements of service that increase the customer level of satisfaction.

31. Develops and achieves department goals with support the organization’s mission and strategic plan annually.
