The Disability Parking and Special Plates Agent exists to service Driver and Vehicle Services and the public in all areas regarding the annual issuance of more than 150,000 disability-parking certificates and 50,000 special license plates (68 types). This position reviews and gathers information to determine if an individual qualifies for issuance of a disability certificate or a special license plate and appropriately updates the vehicle records. The position offers technical advice regarding the issuance and manufacture of disability certificates and special license plates to all deputy registrars and our internal business partners. Additionally this position maintains a database of special plates and disability certificate holders. **Minimum Qualifications** + Ability to provide prompt and courteous customer service, to external and internal customers in person and via phone. + Typing/Keyboarding sufficient to perform skilled typing tasks with speed and accuracy + Data Entry skills sufficient to accurately enter and process applications with a high degree of accuracy. + Math skills sufficient to do basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, percentages) to determine fees and taxes with a high degree of accuracy. + Computer utilization skills sufficient to create, edit, and finalize emails, memos, and letters, for both internal and external customers. + English oral and written language skills sufficient to communicate via email and phone interactions with co-workers, customers, and the general public. **Preferred Qualifications** + Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to draft related documents and correspondence with accuracy and maintain records + Graduate of one of the following public sector training programs: Project for Pride in Living, HIRED, Goodwill Easter Seals, Twin Cities Rise, 1.Takoda, Hmong American Partnership, CLUES or similar Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) sponsored workforce development programs + Knowledge of a written and spoken second language (e.g., Spanish, Hmong or Somali) and English sufficient to translate messages from one language to the other, while maintaining message content, context, and style + Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel) with proficient technical ability to navigate, retrieve, and utilize data from a variety of electronic resources, including DVS' web-based applications and document management systems + Knowledge of Minnesota Driver License and Motor Vehicle Statutes, rules, procedures, and regulations + Excellent Attendance + The ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities and handle difficult individuals. **Physical Requirements** Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file boxes and heavy hand tools or heavier materials with help from others, and moving and transporting light objects frequently. Even though the weights being moved and transported may be a negligible amount, a job in this category may require positioning self to move to a significant degree or may involve maintaining a stationary position for extended periods. Office tasks include repetitive motion of arms, hands, fingers, and neck. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, enter information into the computer, and be able to use hands repetitively for long periods of time. Ability to stoop, bend, and reach during the workday to retrieve documents and materials.
